So why wasn't China doing this to start with if it is such a good deal for them?
Because like with an actual physical war, there are negative consequences to both sides.
Obviously China would prefer to continue their current trade relationship with us, but it takes 2 to tango.

Then they need to sit down and discuss tariffs if that is the case. Right?

China did the only thing that could have a major impact on the U.S. in one felled swoop and that was restrict the import of recyclables from the U.S. This happened way before any tariff talks / Trump even being elected and it has practically killed the recycling markets in the U.S.
Now, whether you view that as good or bad is up to you.

Of course they would! It's extremely one sided to their advantage.
Good thing you aren't President, you'd have countries telling you their own terms and accepting it all... because that's what they want...
Sad!

Of course they would prefer to continue the current system where they frick us over at every opportunity. The question is , why do so many Americans also want to?
This is emblematic of why the "world view of the US" has declined since Trump became President. The world doesn't like a US President who says "okay no more fricking us over " after decades of every country on the planet doing exactly that.
