We went last weekend but water was like chocolate milk and low, I'm guessing due to the west winds which are forecasted for this weekend. Any suggestions for where I can find some clean water under these conditions?

Probably need to run Terre Boeufs toward Lake Robin or Black Bay depending on what you are looking to catch. I would try to stay as far East as possible from the river. you could possibly run to Oak River Bay, Lake Campo, or Lake Calebasse

Dead shrimp under a popping cork. If you are doing the artificial thing try fishing weedless (spoons/soft plastics) around the grass beds. Grass is an excellent filter for dirtier water.

Caught a limit last weekend. Find some moving water.... caught all of ours in grand lagoon and that area. Water was pretty in some spots and bad in others. Just have to find it.
Caught 5 on spoons and the others under a popping cork with dead shrimp off a point.

Sweetwater CLAIMS they have boats catching trout in Black Bay, Oak River Bay, and Lake Campo.

That west wind hasn't been terrible. Winds blowing W at 5 right now. Saturday projected to be WSW 5-10. I don't think you will have trouble finding clean water.

What are the best tips for finding clean water? Is it a looking directly at the water while under way kind of thing or are you more watching your prop wash? What’s the best color for “clean” water in the marsh, green? Black? I struggle with this. Also, are you supposed to watch the wind 2-3 days out when making your decision on where to run? Or is it a day of decision

It's fine. It's 1 minute from my camp. Catch bass and reds in there almost every time I go.

In my opinion, you really just need to look. Pull up to a spot kindof thing. You will notice right away if the water is chocolate milk or not. You will also see it in your prop wash. If you can't see your lure when it's 6" underwater, probably should find another spot with some clean water.

I just joined this board a couple of weeks ago so I could post on the outdoor board. Thanks for y'all's suggestions! Hopefully it won't rain (lightening) Saturday. I think we are gonna start around lake Robin and stay on that side on the way back in. Love the name Smokedbrisket! I have a Weber Smokey mountain. Plenty of good brisket has come out of it. Grub Rub is awesome. Been making my own lately.

There’s clean water. Just have to keep moving. One spot was dirty. Went a 1/4 mile down and it was like tea. Most spots that were clean were on the west side but I did scout off oak river close to the spider and found nice water. Water should start to come to a little. I like it right now because the reds are concentrated

Tito’s tournament out of Slidell this Saturday so most will probably be going that way. So expect to see a lot of boats if you are looking for reds. If looking for specs and bigger water you should be fine.

If you are interested in reds go. Catching trout will be tough; there is river water everywhere. I went out to Lonesome, Stone, Belle, and the Compressor Rig and did not get a trout bite. Gafftops were plentiful. Read Capt. Ahab's article in La. Sportsman. I did not read until after my trip. Go to Hopedale area and fish MRGO.
