When you don’t have much to lose, you can afford to hit them where it hurts.
And while the rest of the EU doesn’t care about this, but Germany’s manufacturing businesses definitely do. Trump is tossing a turd in what is left of the EU punch bowl with this.

I'm assuming nobody read this article. While I'm all for Trump actually threatening countries who have traditionally been allies with tariffs in order to get them to stop screwing us...this article (or the same article published in the WSJ) has nothing to do with Merkel or the EU removing auto tariffs.
All this article says is that German manufacturers would prefer free trade with the US when it comes to auto imports/exports. Well of course they would. Problem is they have no say, no power, no control over the Tariffs. Ultimately the entire EU has to be on board.
I believe that Trump will win this game of chicken...but the OP's title is about as accurate as your typical CNN hit-piece (basically every story they publish)

No I'm saying the title: "MERKEL CAVES IN: Germany 'to offer to scrap EU tax on US cars,' is as wildly inaccurate as a headline that reads "TRUMP GIVES UP: US 'to eliminate steel and aluminum tariffs'," all because Anheuser-Busch and Coca-Cola execs said they don't like 'em and think Trump should get rid of 'em.
