My kids will play flag football until middle school. No reason to play tackle before then unless it’s in the yard. Youth sports have tried to emulate pro sports too often by making seasons longer, changing rules, etc. A 12 year old kid shouldn’t play baseball year round. He shouldn’t be taking head shots in football either.

My 12 yr old plays soccer all yesr around, but luckily we're on one of the two month long breaks. It's a great all year around sport...but since it's just tournament ball there really is no season.
