Getting a group together of probably 3 couples. Hoping there are cabins near or in the park for us to have a home base then tent camp for a night or two during the trip. Looking for suggestions on where to stay and what to do. Thanks.

Having been to both the redwoods north of SFand the sequoias NE of Fresno, the sequoias are more impressive but the redwood forest atmosphere was better

I lived in humboldt for awhile and graduated from humboldt state. I still visit the area every couple of years. I usually stay in arcata or eureka when im up there and travel out from there, never camped. My favorite places and things to do; fern canyon, lost coast/black sands beach/shelter cove, redwoods np, swimming in the trinity alps, ave of the giants, trinidad head trail, horse back riding in orick.

The Curly Redwood Lodge in Crescent City was built entirely from a single redwood tree. That's kinda cool...

When i lived out there, even in the summer it was cool because i was on the coast. So we would drive an hour east into willow creek and it would be 100 out and we would go swimming in the trinity river. Theres lots of great swimming holes with giant boulders to jump off of. When i was there last 2 years ago i wasnt able to make it in land, i ended up swimming in the eel river in sohum and it wasnt as satisfying.

Stayed at these cabins in April of this year and thought they were wonderful.

Elk Meadow Cabins

We did a few hikes in the Redwoods National and a few in the Prairie Creek Redwoods SP (right next door) and thought the trails in the SP were a bit better. Can't go wrong with either. If you haven't yet, I recommend downloading the AllTrails app and scouting around. Some of our favorites were the Trillium Falls trail, Tall Trees Grove trail and Lady Bird trail.
