DirecTv Configuration

New construction so we are trying to pre-wire properly.
After several discussions with DirecTv I come to the TD Tech board to solve the confusion.
My set up will be 8 Tv's and there will be times where 7 will all be on.
One DirecTv tech is telling me I need a genie server and 8 wireless genies and then another is telling me, only 4 can work at one time.
I suggested one dvr genie server, 4 wireless genies and 4 hardwired boxes and they said that's not an option.
Can someone clear this up?

I’m in the same boat.
I could only get one genie and 5 minis. That’s 6 TV’s. But, if you’re recording something that takes up one tuner and you drop to 5 TV’s.
If I want to add more, I’d have to get separate boxes for the 7th and 8th TV. Which is what I’m going to have to do.
DTV won’t let you get two Genies on the same account.

Sorry to hijack but I’m gonna be in a similar situation when I build.
How many drops of RG6 are you running from outside? Since everything is wireless after the genie I’m thinking just 1 run is needed now?

I've been looking into this myself as the new house will have DirecTv installed in a couple weeks.
From what I understand, if you get a Genie 2 it can support a total of 8 clients where 7 can be active at any one time. I believe it will also support 2 4K clients at the same time (as part of the 7).
I don't think wired/wireless matters. The Genie 2 has 7 tuners and can only register 8 devices.
Also, I'm going to ask for everything to be wired. I avoid wireless wherever I can.

I didn't even know they had a Genie 2. Those frickers never mentioned it.
eta: Of course it's no where to be found on their website.

You do not need Genie. Genie blows Chunks and Chunks is a dog.
We have 8 DTV connections at a facility where we have parties and entertain guests.
All HD dvr's.
I opted for this because Genie gives delay to the slave tvs, and so does wireless.
We use the facility for big away football games and you can't have one tv 5-10 seconds ahead of the others.
At the gym in our office we have 8 tvs as well those are all HD non-dvr. So don't let some dtv rep sell you that crap Genie system.

I’ve been reading reviews on the Genie 2 and none of them are good.

You can only have one genie per account and I think with any genie after the first generation (HR34/44/54), they don't let you keep any standalone HD/DVRs either. You can only have the genie server and mini clients (wired/wireless).

So this should work;
#1 Wired Genie dvr
#2 wired client
#3 wired client
#4 wired client
#5 wired client
#6 wireless client
#7 wireless client
#8 wireless client
My understanding is only 3 wireless can work at one time, therefore if I want all 8 on at once, I shouldn’t exceed 3 wireless clients.

can you buy another dvr box?

If this is new construction I would run Coax and Cat 5e wire EVERWHERE U may want a connection. And do not forget about outside. Wireless is easier but wired is better.
With more and more services being delivered over the Internet Cat 5e may be more important in the future.

Directv DVR boxes are leased but you can get any directv equipment you want from Solid Signal. I have a Genie and 3 wired HR24 DVRs. I acquired the receivers over the years free from Directv when my contract was up and I would renew if they would thrown in a additional DVR. The wife records on the Genie and I record on the other 3 DVRs. Non of this commingling play list and her deleting my shite
