IRL Prince and Mr Mcnabb are very similar.
If you're comparing McNabb's 2000 to 2004 career with Prince during the 1999/Purple Rain era, then I can, maybe, see it.
If you're saying both are "puffed up" because they are wrongly "colored" (<-FFS, can I even say that?) for their respective position (QB and guitarist) - then I would have to call bullshite on both.
In fact, I take the somewhat unique position that McNabb probably did face a prejudiced (not racist) "vision test" AND Rush Limbaugh was right about the sports media being very "desirious" of a black QB doing well for SJW reasons.
Just like I can say that Clapton was simultaneously great and overrated, I can say McNabb was both a great QB and, at least at the time, was overrated.
But, I can't say that (overrated) about Prince - he wasn't the only giant talent in pop music of that era - look no further than his chief rival - MJ. So, that tells you right there he wasn't competing with the EVHs of the world (although both are virtuoso's on keys and guitar) - Prince mastered 19 instruments by age 19. He was a profligate songwriter who wrote/produced/developed for other talent as well as for himself and his own band. He was strange as all get out, but that's not unusual for talent at that level.
And he was a great guitarist. Full stop. Not "for a pop guy." Not "for a black guy not named Berry, King or Hendrix." Just great, period.

Prince could do anything he wanted on the guitar. Just because he didn’t noodle out some tired improv-jam solo for 30 minutes on each song doesn’t mean he wasn’t a master of the instrument. He knew where to fit the guitar in a song, say what needed to be said, and then be done with it.
Plus, few artists would have the balls to play at the Super Bowl, in the rain, with a fully amplified rig- much less pull it off effortlessly like he did.

So I suppose Stevie Gaines was a better guitarist than Prince?
Yes. Unfortunately, he didn’t have a huge catalog of work, didn’t play in the rain at a Super Bowl halftime show and didn’t do the splits when he performed.

This shite is about to get good.
Ok. Is this where you post Prince’s solo from the George Harrison RRHOF tribute?

Everything you just listed about Stevie Gaines in the above post just made a rock solid case of why Gaines isn't a pimple on Prince's arse musically. It's like me saying except for the jumping ability, killer instinct, being 6-6, and the ability to hit game winning shots in the NBA, I'm better than Michael Jordan at basketball.

Doing the splits and playing a halftime show in the rain =\= ability on a guitar. That was the joke in what I said. It’s odd that you took it seriously and actually think these things = ability on a guitar. I really can’t tell if you’re joking at this point because the statement is so absurd.
Are they good things performance wise? Probably. But they have nothing at all to do with the ability to play a guitar.
And was Prince an excellent musician: yes, he was. But, again, he is not among the greatest guitarists in the world at all whatsoever.

Meh. I feel about Clapton what many feel about Bruce.

Ummmmmm.....you make zero sense. Just because he didn't get to live long enough to amass a huge catalog doesn't mean he wasn't a better guitarist
With that said, Prince was one of the best all around musicians/artists of our time.

My bad, I was thinking of Jeffrey Gaines, I am not familiar with Stevie Gaines.

Just googled him, I know a lot of skynrd songs, but I was born in 1969 so I didn't really know about Gaines growing up. I do remember hearing that horrible news on the radio the morning after the crash. Those on the plane died way too young.
