Quality of life is subjective, and difficult to measure. Still, there is a wide range of quantifiable factors that can impact quality of life in a given area. Affordability, safety, job market strength, quality of education, infrastructure, average commute times, air quality, and the presence of cultural attractions are just a few examples of factors that can influence overall quality of life.

I thought for sure Baton Rouge would be there. The traffic here is 100% not warranted for a city of its size. Pure infrastructure incompetence.

Detroit looks better than Flint just by those facts.

How are Detroit and Cleveland able to support multiple sports teams, especially MLB teams?

What do the top 4 (or bottom depending on which way you look at it) have in common?

21. Shreveport, La.
Population: 194,472
Median home value: $150,000
Poverty rate: 30.8%
Pct. with at least a bachelor's degree: 23.3%

The violent crime rate in Louisiana of 566 incidents for every 100,000 residents is the fifth highest among states. In Shreveport, violence is even more prevalent. There were 959 violent crimes for every 100,000 residents in 2016, nearly double the corresponding state rate. Violence is often more common in poorer areas, and a large share of Shreveport residents face serious financial hardship. Some 30.8% of the city's population lives below the poverty line compared to the 20.2% of the state's population and 14.0% of the U.S. population. Like many cities on this list, Shreveport is losing residents. In the last five years, Shreveport's population fell by 3.7%, even as the U.S. population grew by 3.7%.

They obviously dont go to obscure cities. I remeber there was a town in VA that didnt even have running water to the houses.

I can agree with that top 5. You can argue placement but not whether these five particular cities are shitholes.

Shreveport is fine outside of the ghetto. Crime doesn’t tend to branch out.

I'll be honest...I'm really becoming wary of the journalism industry's ability to competently provide facts and report the news. Even when it comes to non-political things.

Take a look at this little redaction...

quote:

Correction: In a previous version of this piece, due to a data processing error, the Las Vegas crime rate was reported as 2,136 per 100,000 population. In fact, the metro area's crime rate is 849.2 per 100,000 population. As a result, Las Vegas should not have been included as one of the worst cities to live in. Our list has changed order and a new metro area, Fort Smith, Arkansas has been added.

Really? A "data processing error" managed to somehow only affect Las Vegas' crime stats?
