Air China Sale - Singapore or Ho Chi Minh City (Labor Day)

Good sale on Air China. Leaning towards Vietnam, because I just love me some Pho. Although, Singapore would be an easier trip, I think. Wife going too.
I hear you can fill out some simple paperwork (stateside) and then obtain a Vietnam tourist visa easily, at the airport, for $25 or $50.
Can someone verify it is this simple?
A colleague, who is a bit of a dumbass, but goes to Hong Kong all the time, says Air China is unsafe. My research says otherwise. Any insight?
Soo.. Singapore or Vietnam??
Thanks!
P.S. both flights have LOOOONG layovers at PEK, which I will take advantage of!

While I have been on a couple dumpy Air China flights, there wasn't anything unsafe. I don't recall any logistics issues either.
I would vote Vietnam.
How long of a layover at PEK? Just know that it can often take a long time getting in/out of PEK, ESPECIALLY out. The immigration lines can get very long. The airport is also a good haul out from anything you'd want to see.

yea, these are some SERIOUS layovers.. which I often seek out and try to take advantage of (Zurich, Taipei, Panama City, Paris, etc.).
Singapore and Vietnam layovers are different, but:
outbound to HCMC has 15h45m at PEK (4:50am to 8:35pm)
return from HCMC has 20h05m at PEK (11:35am to 7:40am)

Air China will get you there safely, I wouldn't worry about that.
If you are getting a killer deal then do it. The service will be poor at best. If you were flying in business or first I would be hesitant, the premium product lacks US airlines.
The premium cabin also reeks of smoke. Chinese pilots chain smoke in the cockpit. I have never experienced anything like it in my life. (I started to remember taking flights when in the mid 90s).

Can confirm. It's that easy. Just use a reputable VOA company. My wife and I had zero issues last month at the HCM airport.
HCM is an awesome city. You can live like a king on very little money. The people are friendly and the food is awesome and it's everywhere.

This is no longer the standard. Evisa is the way to go.
Evisa Vietnam
Takes 10 minutes online, pay $25 dollars, you'll get confirmation of approval within a few days, then print out your visa from home.
Can't get any easier. Wife and I went last year. Had multiple family members go through this process also without issues.
