Not over bearing at all. In fact, I sense that I am being taken advantage of. There is a pattern developing with this person of missing Fridays and Mondays. I don't want to go here with this person on this reason, but I sense we are being left high and dry on busy days. I've never flinched in letting them have off for this.

I typically plan my vacation days for Fridays as well since those are usually the days with the least activity in the office. Calling someone untrustworthy bc most of their vacation days are on Friday is pretty shitty IMO

Would hate working for you based off of this. If your staff member is having a spouse leave the country for a year, you're not even going to let them take a few hours off to say goodbye without a doctor's note?

Also he's ruining his chances of being Jody.

If his employee is consistently skipping work, I think asking for proof is justified. You can't just fire people willy nilly nowadays. They'll sue you

We usually know months in advance but the exact day is not known until roughly 72 hours before departure. They usually tell us “you’ll leave between Monday and Thursday.”

Orders are still not his right to see, now if the employee/spouse and the military member want to show them a blacked out copy that's on them

Again, I'm not going to go into detail here but this is the latest in a pattern that has developed over the last year with this person. I have sound reason that the latest deployment was on Saturday and not Friday. It put us in a bind, which normally I would bend over backwards for if the spouse truly left on Friday. Hell, I may have given the Friday off to spend time with their spouse if they were being honest.

Even if they have exhausted their vacation/sick and call in days so far this year? Honestly I have already cut my losses on this. I just don't like being lied to as a boss when I have been more than accomodating to this person's needs. It's turning into one of those give an inch, take a yard scenarios.

I'll find a replacement and move on. This person can be another company's problem.

I don't blame you for thinking he is goofing off. There was a guy in another department that would use his National Guard duty to get out of weekend work. It would screw up people's shifts. They finally called him on the carpet and he quit. He was a big bull shiter...not many people liked him.

Has this been passed on through your company's HR and has the past absences been documented ?

In all but the most unusual circumstances deployment orders or at least a redacted version of them would be made available.

Most of my orders, even when I was heading somewhere we were not at, were not classified.
