I live in Denver. It’s a city, no different from most others. What sets it apart is the mountains. Go there. Skip Denver and the Springs.
I have 7 and 9 year old boys. We just spent the weekend in RMNP camping and hiking. The mountains are why we all live here.
I’m assuming you have a car. You should drive up through Boulder then Lyons to Estes Park. Drive through RMNP on trail ridge road(highest continuis paved road in America) over the Grand Lake and spend the night there. Or keep going to Granby or Winter Park. From there it’s a beautiful ride over to Breck. You’re mind will be blown!
Or you could drive over to Steamboat from Granby and spend the night there. If you do that go to Breck via 131 and stop at Lupitas for tacos. You’ll also get to see Vail if you go this route.

^^^^ and raft the Arkansas. Your kids will remember that more than touring either city.

8thyearsenior is on point, his post is spot on. Your time is much better spent in rmnp park than Denver.

I'm planning my 2nd trip to Colorado and am looking at doing Winter Park, Grand lake, then Estes Park. I'm familiar with Estes but do you have any recommendations on Winter Park and Grand lake?
