HBO has just given a pilot order to Jane Goldman’s Game of Thrones spinoff, one of five potential follow up shows to the acclaimed series currently in the works—and with it, we have the first story details, revealing a show set well before the Westeros we’re familiar with.
HBO officially revealed today that Goldman’s series will be set thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, in a period where Westeros transitions from an era of fantastical prosperity known as the “Age of Heroes” into something more akin to the world we know of in the show—heralded by the the arrival of the horrifying White Walkers, and the Long Night they cast over the land.
Here’s the brief plot description, courtesy of Variety: And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend–it’s not the story we think we know.
The story we think we know has already been told by Martin in the pages of his fascinating lore book, The World of Ice and Fire, which chronicled how Westeros used to be a land where Men cohabited with mystical creatures, like giants and the magical children of the forest, before the arrival of the White Walkers nearly drove the inhabitants of Westeros to extinction.

Difficult to get excited about this until GRRM finishes ASOIAF.

I don't know what to think about this. I'd kind of like for the Heroes to not be fully elaborated on and be more myths.... but I still am interested in this period. I'm guessing we'll see The Long Night.

It's hard for me to get excited about a different timeline in the same universe when the original story that got me interested hasn't been finished. Feels like halfway solving a question on a test and then just moving on the next question without providing an answer. Any timeline on this new series?

Don't we already know that? The First Men were hunting down the Children and the Children created them to fight the First Men, and then they turned against the Children.

Fat Man needs to finish writing TWoW before helping write a prequel series!!!
Still excited though.

That means they don't care about holding to Martin's history - not the history we think we know.
ETA: is Martin even going to be involved in this?

My dick literally couldn’t be any more erect.
BRING IT
ETA: the Starks are going to be original villains. I hope they all have red hair and pale skin and Sansa is proven to be the true villain in our current timeline. Nothing would make me happier.

Going to be hard to gain an audience with such a similar plot line to the original series (seeing as most of the main core of the show revolves around the same villain and issues etc etc)
Seems very Walking dead/ Fear of the walking dead ish

Totally agree
This really does nothing for me. We already know what happened. And have seen tbe details of how the walkers were created.
If your going to do a Got show you have to either do an old Valeria show, or, my personal thought, do a show about the shadow lands and the far far unknown east.
Hell you could make it anything, Conan tbe Barbarian land.. Anything
