Amsterdam in 24 hours...Maybe 48

I have a work trip to Germany in late June/Early July and I'm hoping to squeeze a day in Amsterdam on the way back. Has anyone here ever done this? Besides eating some brownies and hooking-up with whores...anything else I need to squeeze in?

I highly recommend the Rijksmuseum if you like art. The Van Gough museum is a short walk from there, too.

Rent a bike (most hotels offer rentals for a few Euro-per-day) and take a ride to vondelpark.
Gotta keep your head on the swivel because they take bicycling seriously there. But it was one of the best experiences I had there.

Currently in Amsterdam... I second the Vondelpark rec (thats where we are staying on Overtoom)..
We did all the museums too.. MOCO has a Banksy exhibit, which is cool..
Ive mainly just enjoyed exploring the neighborhoods away from the City Centre area... so many cool areas...

vondelpark.
hit the Blue Teahouse in the middle of the park for a beer.
Walk the Prinsengracht, Keizergracht and Herengracht canals. Stop and chill w/ a dutch beer at Proeflokaal Arendsnest (bar that serves only dutch craft beer). They have outdoor tables along the Herengracht canal. Cafe Spuyt (my favorite) Wildeman and Cafe Gollem are good for Belgian beers such as Cantillion and Westvleteren.

This. We always have bikes and never go into the center. The Overtoom area, de Pijp, Oost area, the area around the Foodhallen are all good areas full of cafes and way less tourists. There is also a free ferry (take the IJ ferry) behind the train station over to Noordilicht that has some cool cafes. Cafe Noordilicht if you like hippies. Also NDSM-warehouses is a giant old warehouse full of working artist who display there work. Its free to walk around inside and check out different studios.

rent a bike for a day and just explore the city, don't rush and enjoy the trip, 24 or 48 hours not enough to see everything

I'd definitely try to get into the Anne Frank house. We also enjoyed the Bols tour. Like others have said, rent a bike and explore.

My fiancee and I went and we really enjoyed the canal tours, Van Gogh museum, and the Heineken brewery tour. As another poster mentioned, there are a few other awesome museums very close to Van Gogh.
We had the best time just wandering around the city though. It is absolutely beautiful and lively. We didn't rent a bike, but I think that would be a good idea. It would give you a chance to see much more of the city.
We had some wonderful dining experiences there, but I would most recommend Teppanyaki Sazanka. It was very similar in style to the hibachi steakhouses we have in the US, but it was so so so much better!
Enjoy the trip!
