whatever date is picked it should be a set "date" and not a "day of the week" that is just too arbitrary and stupid

I can't speak to federal regulations and the "last Sunday of January" rule, but I know from reading and through conversations with biologist in Louisiana that they try to set seasons with start and end dates on weekends maximize weekend hunting opportunities.

I mean, let's face it, not everyone works shift work or can take off whenever they want, and the agency is a public service agency. I harp on LDWF managing based on biology all the time, but they do, to a degree, have to cater to their customers.

Now, since it's a 60 day season, I tend to agree. You aren't going to lose more than one weekend by setting the season to end on January 31.
