Looking for a guided hunt (low-fence) that will allow two hunters to split a hunting package (1 buck, 1 cull, 1 doe, etc.). Location doesn't matter and we would prefer whitetail, but other types would suffice as well.

I’ve been looking online but can’t find anything cheaper than about $3000 per hunter. That would be fine if my father and I could split this hunt, but I haven’t come across a ranch that allows that.

check with South Texas Hunting Outfitters.... I looked into a hunt with them, very affordable rates with lots of options.... don't know about splitting the hunt though.

Go to Texas hunting forums there will be a ton of stuff listed or you can make a post explaining what you want and what you are willing to spend. Make sure you research whoever you might use via searches on their forum and through google

Agree with wick. Or if you have Facebook there are a couple good exotic hunting pages in Texas that always post deer hunts.

I have two suggestions:

1) buy an OTC tag in eastern Montana and hunt on your own on public land. Take your shotgun and experience world class pheasant and grouse hunting as well. You can stay way under $3,000 if you drive up with someone. The adventure and experience will be worth more than anything, far exceeding sitting in a box in Texas to shoot a deer with a tag in its ear.

2) If you are a bow hunter look at western North Dakota, along the Missouri River (Near the two units of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park). Tons of BEAUTIFUL public land thick with whitetails along the river. Again, world class bird hunting to include ducks and geese.

this info is a bit dated, and I never posted it publicly but had saved a draft. I would steer clear of south texas hunting outfitters. I've had good luck with westtexashunt(mulie mike), west kerr ranch, and bucky bonner outfitters. Also, I'd recommend going to the Nebraska pine ridge if you can find someone that still has an opening.

when we went with STXO they were super responsive when we booked but wouldn't call or text us a week out from the hunt and we figured we just lost our deposit. They finally texted a few days out to tell us where to go, and we basically "replanned to go" after giving up. We showed up and feeders weren't full or functioning, I don't think the guide had ever driven the whole ranch. They demanded the payment in full in cash before they'd let us go onto the ranch(warning if this happens again, I will most likely leave. I've been on over 100 guided trips and never seen this before or after) the lodging was big enough for about 10 people and there were closer to 20. two clients slept on couches in the common area. Multiple groups left after the first day.

good info nolaks. Have talked to them but never hunted with them... that doesn't sound good at all.

Back to the original poster. You might look up Lonnie Walker Outdoors on facebook. He has a ton of different options... some high fence.. but he does have a low fence hunt now that I had forgotten about. Hunted with him before and the next time I book a hunt it will definitely be with him. Great guy and great guide.

They looked familiar and I looked them up and they are the same group we made an opening weekend dove hunt with. Way too many people shooting on a field, the main field was loaded with birds the other fields had nothing. The main guys name was Haiden Mensik, I would also not recommend them...

Never hunting with Mike (WTHO) but have talked to him a few times. Seems like a good dude and has good reviews on all the forums. He recently posted some good packages on Facebook.

man, really makes me appreciate the guy we use in western kentucky. 6 of us go during rifle season every year. 5 day hunt, camp house included sitting on 1200 acres $800 each. We kill multiple bucks every year. Killed 6 bucks and 3 doe last year. I couldnt fathom paying 2 or 3 grand.
