Why can't they put money into the 401k you will have with them?

Never seen it done before in practice though but I've never been a executive.

You and employer can put in $55,000 a year into a 401k if you include what the employer can put in.

Good point, didn't think of that. I'm terrible at negotiating salaries and sign-ons FWIW, especially if it's for a more exiting position

because most employers are lazy and if it's something they haven't done in the past, they'll probably just opt for something more common...bonus.
