2 black guys arrested at a Philadelphia Starbucks by 8 cops

Twitter video
I get there's two sides to every story but this is a bad look for Philly cops. Apparently they were waiting for a friend to arrive before ordering. They were asked to leave and asked why. The cops were then called. 8 cops showed up to arrest them.
Twitterverse is now blowing up.

Don’t start no trouble won’t be no trouble. They were probably being jackasses.

You can’t just sit in a coffee shop and not order anything.
Edit: i’ll concede that they were dressed okay, but my point stands.

Every Starbucks I have been in has extremely nice workers
For them to call the cops on these guys tells me something
For them to call the cops on these guys tells me something

Because 2 vs 1 would have gone off without a hitch....2 vs 2 slight overkill....
Imagine you were tasked with detaining 2 people who you have no idea how they will respond...would you like a bit of help?
Do unto others.....police help because they want help when in the same situation.

This is all missing something...
I really don't see 8 cops.. putting two black guys ( that seem calm and non threatening)
In cuffs... for no reason
. When everybody there had there phones out.
Like ... even shitty cops aren't that stupid.
Maybe the Starbucks employee call was to blame..
I dunno.. seems like a silly thing

I've done it many times. Never had cops show up. Then again, it was at CC's.

I don’t know, but coffee shops and restaurants don’t typically make customers leave for no reason at all.

In a recorded statement on Saturday, Commissioner Ross stated that on Thursday at around 4:40 p.m. police received a 911 call for a disturbance and trespassing at the Starbucks.
When officers arrived, they were met by Starbucks employees who told them that two males were trespassing and refused to leave.
The employees told officers that the two males had come in, sat down, then later decided to use the restroom.
The coffee shop had a policy that only paying customers may use the restroom. The employees asked them men to leave and they refused.
The employees told the men that the police would be called and they said, "Go ahead and call police, we don't care."
The officers then spoke with the men and asked them to leave because they were on private property and the employees wanted them to leave, and the men refused.
The officers called for a supervisor so that the situation wouldn't get out of hand, and on three occasions they politely asked the men to leave.
Instead, the men told the officers that they were not leaving and there was some rhetoric about "you don't know what you are doing, you're only a $45,000 per year employee," or something to that regard, according to Commissioner Ross.
quote:
Because the men refused to leave and Starbucks had called them about the trespassing disturbance, the men were arrested for trespassing.
After officers transported the men to be processed, they discovered that Starbucks was no longer interested in pressing charges. The men were then released.
"It is important to emphasize and underscore that these officers had legal standing to make this arrest," Commissioner Ross said. "Again, they were called to the scene because employees said that they were trespassing. It is important for me to say, in short, that these officers did absolutely nothing wrong. They followed policy. They did what they were supposed to do. They were professional in all their dealings with these gentlemen, and instead, they got the opposite back."
"I will say that as an African-American male, I am very aware of implicit bias," the commissioner continued. "We are committed to fair and unbiased policing, and anything less than that will not be tolerated in this department."
The commissioner went on to explain that every one of these recruits get bias training.
"Something else that I want to highlight..." Commissioner Ross added. "I can tell you that there was a case involving one of our sergeants, probably a couple years ago, who went to Starbucks in full uniform and he was also denied access to the restroom. So they are at least consistent in their policy."
"These officers did absolutely nothing wrong, and did a service that they were called to do," the commissioner concluded. " And if you think about it logically, that if a busienss calls and says that 'someone is here that I no longer wish to be in my business', [the officers] now have a legal obligation to carry out their duties, and they did just that."

Interviews at CCs are common. Gang bangers waiting for friends is not.
Where I live there's been a rash of laptop theft at coffee shops. My guess is that's what happening in Philly too.

Yes, and it is the choice of the establishment to allow you to stay. It is also within their right to kick you out if you don’t order anything.

The black police chief gave a statement. This is cut and dry and the cops did a great job
Starbucks saw two me enter store
Starbucks told them nothing
After a while, without ordering, man used restroom
Employees told them that was for customers only
The men refused to order anything or leave
The employees called the cops
The cops came and asked the men to leave
The men again refused
The cops called their supervisor
Their supervisor arrived and told the men to leave, and asked them to leave so they would not have to arrest them
The men refused again
They were then arrested and cuffed without a physical confrontation

It is funny how the cop lovers will blindly defend anything the scared cops do.

Welp. That settles it. Good find, lsupride87
If that is indeed what happened, they had it coming. Now we can sit back and watch the left shite themselves. Black cop saying the arrest of black men was justified. At a Starbucks at that. This is going to be like Christmas.
