We need a real hitting coach

The approach at the plate is pathetic tonight and has been for much of the year.
Use some of the $ we didn’t pay for a credible head football coach or offensive coordinator to go get a real hitting coach.

what is the best approach in your eyes?

Start by not watching fastballs that are hittable and not chasing breaking balls outside of the zone that are not.

Boom, problem solved. Why the shite didn’t Ochinko think of it?

Huh seems like Dunn works with pitchers on their approach. He’s a legit pitching coach.
You don’t think a hitting coach has any bearing on how the hitters approach each pitcher given the situation?

Sooo you think Ochinlo is teaching them to do this?

Do the results indicate he is?

Explain the responsibilities of a hitting coach then
A good hitting coach who understands what he is doing can make a major difference for hitters in their preparation and performance. I am not sayin everyone will be all stars
LSU has some talented kids with so much ability I dont think we are even close to maximizing our capabilities at the plate
IMO

yea, i dont think they tell them to pass on fastballs in order to hit curve balls. Sometime the other pitcher is good, ya know. They dont tell you whats coming

I’m going to agree with the general premise of the OP. A seasoned, proven hitting coach can see tendencies in a guys swing that are hurting or helping him and help him adjust or stay consistent. It’d be nice if we went out and got a highly experienced and proven hitting coach in the offseason (assuming our bats don’t come alive, as often happens). But I’m not going to sit here and pretend I know what kind of approach Ochinko and Mainieri preach each practice or game or at bat and what kind of “approach” they should preach instead. OP’s assesment that we shouldn’t chase curveballs out of the zone or pass up hittable fastballs is truly groundbreaking though.

The results indicate the players are not executing. I’m not sure what they are taught but it’s not what they have been doing lately.
Smith and Broussard being out is crushing this lineup. Not just having them not in but Watson, Cabrera, and Bain are batting out of place.
Smith
Broussard
Duplantis
Watson
Beau
Cabrera
Feduccia
And two out of Bain/Slaughter/Reid/Hughes
That is a completely different lineup that could be dangerous.

A lot of people bashed Gibbs early last year and by the end of the year, the team was firing on all cylinders.
Who's approach specifically needs changing? Slaughter of course, but he is kind of who he is. He has been walking more lately, so that is good.
Austin Bain, yea, prob. He's a converted pitcher.
The rest of our guys for the most part work counts & get on base at a high rate. There isn't much more you can ask for a team devoid of top end power.

Other than giving them tips on hitting on co-eds at Bogies.

I think the team should institute two new rules. The first rule should be not watching fastballs that are hittable and not chasing breaking balls outside of the zone that are not. The second rule should be to not hit outs. That should help.
