Chromecast, Apple TV, roku, or firestick?

I'm just looking for one of these devices to do simple streaming with, not to act as a replacement for cable
MLB.tv, Netflix, wwe app, Hulu, and other networks like cbs, nbc etc for missed episodes
Would I be able to do all of that with this chrome cast or do I need something more technical? I don't know much at all about the chrome cast honestly. I have a Mac and iPhone if that makes a difference

The new Roku stick is the best overall stick on the market. Solely focused on video content.
The Fire Stick has the best specs. If you have Amazon content/Prime it's the best choice.
The Chromecast has some other features, and if you have any Google Play content it might be worth it. It is only controlled from your phone. The Roku and Fire Stick are like video players, remotes and all.

We have Apple TV and love. But I am a PS Vue subscriber and the Apple TV is my main way to view content.
We mainly use PS Vue, Netflix, Amazon, and HBO apps as well as using Itunes to rent/buy movies.
Apple TV is very stable and works well - but it is more expensive than other options.

It depends. Do you want to control it with your phone every time or do you want a physical remote?
The chromecast requires flinging it every time from your phone or tablet or browser. Unless things have changed?
If you want an actual remote with also the options of having an app control it then you could try the roku or firestick.
I like all three of these devices for several different reasons. I don't know about the Apple tv

I'm a big fan of Roku, not only for the ease of use of their interface, but for their corporate policy of not acting as content censor. Google (Chromecast), Amazon (Fire) and Apple (AppleTV) aren't nearly as good from that perspective.
I've also heard good things about the nVidia Shield though I've never seen one in real life.

Chromecast will work fine for what you said you'd use it for. Just know it has no dedicated interface, and you use your phone or tablet to control the stream. I've had one for a few years though, and really like the ease of it, and how easily you can move it from one TV to another.
I also have an Apple TV and a TV with Roku built in, and they both blow Chromecast out of the water with their interface.

The Roku has the best interface and user experience. But they have a proprietary programming language so app support isn't always there. You should pick Roku UNLESS you want/need:
Kodi - most commonly used app for illegally streaming TV and movies
Alexa - Alexa's integration with FireTV and services like PSVue provides good voice control that you'll use much more than you think you will
If you're looking for either of the above then pick the FireTV over Roku.
I haven't used an Apple TV or a Chromecast but
- Lack of a physical remote control on Chromecast forcing you to use a mobile app to control has always made it something I wouldn't spend money on. Most people that have it like it though, so if the concept of no remote doesn't bother you then it should be a consideration as well.
- Apple TV doesn't have any unique features yet to justify the expense EXCEPT the integration with iDevices and being able to mirror your screen. Also of note, Apple is planning to spend $1 Billion this year on original programming with some pretty big names behind it like a scifi show from the creator of Battle Star Galactica and some Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Anniston show. I suspect this content will only be available on iDevices although we don't many details yet other than they're under development.

Here's a link to a comparison of digital media players: LINK
I've got a Roku, Chromecast and Fire Stick and while they're all good I prefer the Roku.
I've used an Apple TV and the only reason to consider that option is for the iTunes / iDevice integration.

To each their own I guess. I have all of them and use Apple TV the most. I don’t get the love for Roku as I think that is the worst of them all.

I’m assuming there’s no mirroring/airplaying with roku?
Posted on 4/7/18 at 12:23 pm to tunechi
Yes, there is. I'm able to use the Roku app to mirror my Google Nexus tablet.

Is it still possible with iOS? I have iPhone/MacBook

It has the best interface, 2nd best specs (at least out of sticks and when you consider the Roku Ultra), and doesn't require one to buy into an ecosystem. It lacks some of the specific features, true voice integration and what not, but if you just need a simple media player it's hard to beat from an ease of use perspective.

Roku and Apple TV are the 2 worst options.
1. Nvidia shield
2. Fire box or Android box
3. Fire stick
4. Everything else
In that order

I have both Roku and fire stick.
I like the Roku because of interface, can hook headphones to the remote and a beeper for the remote if it ever gets lost.
