LarryDavid, if you don’t mind, what is your uncles initials? I have an uncle with about the same story. Initials D.B.

Pathetic.

Not so
Then you probably aren't an old curmudgeon then.
While I wasn't young enough to have Millenials under my command I did have plenty of young men that many here would consider soft when they first came in. One thing I learned is some of those soft kids made the best soldiers. I learned not to judge people until I saw them tested. Each generation of kids gets tested less as children as did the previous generations but just like previous generations many of them rise to the occasion when called for.
I personally hate the millennial bashing I think it is pathetic and much of it results from jealousy. In any case, bashing an entire generation is simply intellectually weak.

They drafted for the Korean War? Honestly didn't know this?
My Dad was drafted during the Korean War, while he was at LSU. He stayed stateside during the war. Several men he served with went overseas and never returned.
He considered himself lucky.

He had never been out of Louisiana and had just turned 18. He never talks about what happened over there just says that it was hell .
My father-in-law was drafted also and spent 38 months as a Korean POW. My wife said he never talked about his experiences until about 2005. The stories he told would chill your spine. Out of over 800 prisoners in his camp, only about 275 made it back home.
