The USPS deal with China and a few other Asian countries is a bad one, no doubt, but that has nothing to do with Amazon
This is incorrect...Amazon Prime is exploiting this scenario by offering vendors their cheaper postage rates.... if paid upfront. The problem with their program is that products that do not sell after 6 months must be paid for again....to offer them for a new 6 month period. Amazon is absolutely making money on this tax subsidized loophole.

In what realm is Amazon a monopoly?

I'm confused on what is wrong with this practice? What does the USPS deal with China have to do with your son's Amazon Prime arrangements?
Also, if your 11 year old is selling items on Amazon, I think it is pretty clear Amazon is a net positive, no?

Bezos should just buy Trump and finish out his term.

The FTC actually publishes a definition of a monopoly on their website. I would invite anyone who believes that Amazon is a monopoly to point me to the portion of that definition that would fit Amazon.

I'm going to stop you right there, CorporateTiger. Trump is a great businessman. So... stop it.

But we need to protect small businesses like Toys ‘R’ Us and K-Mart.

My point is that Amazon is offering postage cheaper than the US postal service offers any other small business.... as long as I meet their conditions. If you don"t see that as a problem, we will just have to agree to disagree.
To add salt to the wound, the Chinese merchants pay Amazon a cheaper rate than a US based company because of the US subsidized E-packets. My son is selling items that he can make for 1 dollar ...Amazon Prime wants 2.50 per unit upfront to offer them for a 6 month period

I don’t get all the people acting like he claimed amazon did something wrong
Calling out a specific company by name using the extremely powerful platform that is the presidency should NEVER happen. Go ahead and nitpick the words he chose to use, but it is clear he is trying to paint Amazon in a negative light as if they've done something wrong, regardless of whether it's true.
The real culprits here are the politicians that have created this tax system and business environment, so why didn't he call them out? Why target Amazon? Because he wants people to believe Amazon is doing bad things.

Wal mart is an economic godsend.
Taxpayers subsidize Walmart's labor force because they don't pay living wages
Walmart gets huge tax breaks from local governments on the (likely erroneous) belief that it will boost the local economy
Walmart jacks around smaller suppliers (especially locally-sourced produce), doing such things as letting shipments sit too long and spoil, and then refusing to pay. This after strong-arming the little guy into nearly breakeven prices on the promise of large volume.
They scatter smaller stores around an area until the mom-and-pop's and other local competition is starved out, then shut those down to consolidate into a larger store to service the whole area. This leaves the people with basically one option for many items that is now a further drive than what they had before, provides fewer jobs, and lowers property values all around.
Walmart is a very fine-tuned machine that snipes small businesses and sucks up their profits at the expense of local governments, the local workforce, and taxpayers as a whole. We pay the living expenses of their employees! How is this an economic godsend?

So Amazon will send it for you cheaper than the USPS, but that's a bad thing? I must be confused.

So you are confused that a private company can utilize a federally funded organization more cheaply than any other small-business, and profit from it..... obviously you're okay with Bezos becoming the richest man in the world on the back of the US taxpayer ....Trump is not

tough shite
Ordinarily one would say, yes, to bad.
But not when they are doing it at the expense of the tax payer.

Amazon isnt a monopoly due to they offer a platform for other businesses to sell the same product.

- Cheaper for chinese sellers
- as long as you play their game and pay up front for items that may or may not sell
- they will offer you their heavily discounted, tax payer subsidized postage rate
Congrats on that 100 Billion dollars Bezos

The US Postal Service is losing money on each package shipped by Amazon. So by skirting shipping cost and by not having to charge the consumer sales tax equal to hard retailers they are using government to gain a competitive edge not available to you or me.
