I really don't think I will ever be able to understand the motivation behind a person that shoots up a school.

Most crimes have a motive behind them, but I can't think of what provides the motivation to do this.

Boomtown Rats song "I don't like Mondays" is based on the interviews with a girl who skipped HS to take LSD and decided to shoot up the Elementary School across the street from her residence.

Basically she was fed up with the noise of the kids chasing each other and playing so she got a rifle and started shooting them as a solution to the noise problem. When asked why, and why today, her reply was: "I don't like Mondays".

I had no idea of the story behind the song. Good stuff.

That summer, Spencer, who was known to hunt birds in the neighborhood, was arrested for shooting out the windows of Cleveland Elementary with a BB gun and burglary. [2][10] In December, a psychiatric evaluation arranged by her probation officer recommended that Spencer be admitted to a mental hospital for depression but her father refused to give permission. For Christmas 1978, he gave her a Ruger 10/22 semi-automatic .22 caliber rifle with a telescopic sight and 500 rounds of ammunition. Spencer later said, "I asked for a radio and he bought me a gun." When asked why he might have done that, she answered, "I felt like he wanted me to kill myself."
Once again, problem had a solution
