Yep it's a caffeine withdrawal. Replace the soda with black coffee when the headaches start coming on.

It's funny though most only get caffeine withdrawal symptoms from soda, not coffee.

Sugar withdrawals are real too though. I don't really drink coffee, tea, sodas, etc. but when I quit sugar for a whole 30 type of diet, I had the worst headaches and cravings for a few days. I can imagine quitting soft drinks if you drink them every day could have an effect like that due to both caffeine and sugar withdrawals.

If I drink more than a small cup of coffee per day for a couple of weeks, the first day I don't I get BAD headaches. Like migraine type shite
