Love them both, but they're southern rock, not outlaw country.

1953. He was only 28. June settled Johnny down. I wonder if Anita could have done the same for Hank.

and it isn't even close.....he lived it and defined it....I mourned when he left us.
TBH...love him or hate him...Shooter has stuck to that legacy...regardless of where he has found himself when put up against the the usual measures of success or how popular he is or isn't...and I love him for it.

Agree on Marshall Tucker, somewhat disagree on CDB.
The CDB hits about as middle of the road between country and rock as you can get. Kind of like Tool is hard to slot in a specific genre, CDB is like that too - not really (at least fully) country or southern rock - falls more in the category of "CDB."

CDB and Marshall Tucker could both wade pretty deep in the country pool, IMO.

While I don't disagree with that - MTB is first and foremost a rock band, with strong country and blues sensibilities - which are the defining features of Southern Rock.
CDB is a category all its own, IMHO.
(ETA: Of course there are many connections between these two bands, in particularly, with Charlie playing fiddle for MTB on some things and the bands shared producer/co-writer Paul Hornsby - no relation to Bruce - on a number of releases.)

I really don't think we're disagreeing here

Waylon was the best of the bunch. Sorry he’s no longer with us.
