Ive pretty much always fished it Texas rig, but based on some reports I've been missing out.

What hooks do you use? O ring? Weed guard?

I bought these hooks, but the weed guard seems pretty Damn stiff. Wondering if I can get some pointers.

Eta- what line do you use?

I use those same style hooks and an o ring on the bait.

I run hook through o ring but i also catch a little bit of the senko just to beef the connection up.

Gamakatsu G-finesse weedless wacky hook. They even have weighted wacky hooks that I’ve used to fish senkos wacky style in deeper water. I don’t use O-rings. I just hook it through the meat of the senko. Never had an issue with it.

Weedless wacky hook. I’ve always trimmed the weed guard flush with the bottom of the hook. They are a bit long out of the box.

Anybody out nails/weights in the ends to give it more action? Or is that unnecessary?

I never have. But there’s a rig called the neko rig that I’ve been wanting to try. Just haven’t gotten around to it. Look it up. Sort of a wacky style with a weighted worm.

Weightless wacky senkos around flooded timber this time of year can be absolutely deadly. And yes the weed guard is awesome. Love the o-rings too. I prefer the weed guard style instead of the one that hooks under the barb but they both work well.

Any other time of the year and I fish almost exclusively the weighted wacky heads which are also called "flick-shake". And I don't just throw them in deeper water. When the water warms up the faster fall rate generates more bites in my experience and the weighted head somehow helps it be more weedless when pulled through cover.

I prefer a skinnier Trick worm. More action more bites

I fish trick worms, finesse worms, magnum finesse, and all sizes of senkos. Each option has slightly different action and fall rates. In thick cover I want a smaller bait. Fishing deep grass beds, I want the biggest profile bait I can throw. Fishing mats, I want the highest surface area to weight ratio so that it sits on top of the vegetation before I pull it into an opening. So every situation I throw a little different bait. Sometimes I down size too if I'm fishing a small river or trying to match the hatch on a smaller forage.

You would save a lot of money on Senkos if you did

I do the same. The only downfall with the wacky rig is that the hook up ratio isn't the best, however the setup will get lots of bites

Probably not. Cause 99% of the time I fish them Tx rigged. I rarely throw wacky. If the wacky rig comes out, I’m probably struggling pretty bad.

If you're missing a lot of wacky bites 1 of 2 things is probably happening - either you're not realizing you have a bite initially because they are grabbing it on the fall so the fish has time to eat it and decide to spit it out, or you're setting the hook too hard.

Hook up ratios on a wacky should be very very high. I rarely miss wacky fish. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but you shouldn't miss more fish on a wacky worm than on a tx rigged worm.

Unlike aggressive TX rigged hook sets and jig hook sets, wacky hook sets are much more of a reel down to pick up the slack and position the hook and then a wrist pop/snap to set it home. The small diameter exposed hooks shouldn't require the force of a thicker EWG worm hook.

i dont like any whacky hook that small, the hook up ratio seems way too low.

I use Mustad #1, I think your hook having some spine helps
hookup ratio

but yes, whacky senko is legit, falls faster as well

I have had those weed guards block the hook before. Probably isolated, but has made me go to the other type of weedless shown above.

Gliss to a swivel, then either mono or fluoro.

I throw 10lb or 17lb nanofil. 10lb on smaller finesse/trick worms and 17lb on the senkos but that's just because of the rod I use. And I direct tie. Every now and then I'll tie on a 3-4' 8lb fluoro leader.
