I resigned from my management consulting firm in October and have since started working for myself.

One thing that helped me make the jump was I had 3 clients asking for work as soon as I was available. I now can make more working 50% as much as I used to and billing clients half of what most firms do.

Your clients see what you saw. The rest was up to you and you delivered. None of us know what you do or what they needed and that's precisely our point.

So you went against your non compete? Or is your company that bad that they didn't have one in place?
