I think a decent percentage of males with slow-twitch muscles could break five in the mile.
Disagree and a sub 5 min mile requires as much speed as endurance.
quote:
There were quite a few sub 5 milers on my team who were not even very good athletes or runners.
bullshite. I was the best at the mile in my highschool of about 1,000 and I never got under 5 min. And I'm not sure if anyone in any of the dozen or so track meets I ran in got under 5 minutes until the first regional meet at year end where 3 or 4 ran sub 5 (I ran my best time ever of 5.08 at this meet).

Breaking five minutes is not impressive in high school if you are running at a competitive level.
I bet it would win 95% of high school track meets during the season and before regionals.

Your school was trash. 5:08 is a good time for a middle schooler or high school girl. Not a post-pubescent boy who invests any time or effort into it.
I haven't ran at all in the last year, smoke a few packs a week, and I am still pretty confident that I could go out and break 5 tomorrow. At least by next week.

This I halfway agree with, even in Louisiana you generally had to run under 4:50s to make it out of district, at least in the larger classes.

This is dumb, anyone who runs a sub 5 min mile is an amazing runner.
Better question might be what is the largest person you've ever seen run that fast. In HS and college I'm fairly certain I've never seen anyone over 190 lbs run that fast, probably even over 180 lbs. Fast milers are generally really lean, light people. I'm too old now but even if I wanted to try to run sub 5 I would probably end up going from 180 to under 170 in part because of the training needed.

Yeah, to make it out of a district (regional) meet. That is what I just said, 3-4 guys ran sub 5 in the district/regional meet, but during the regular track season, a sub 5 mile wins 95% of meets.

I weigh 225-230, and I could do it within the month for sure if I wanted to. Might get down to 215-220 to do it.

Yes, unless you are either over 6-8 or Captain America that is impossible.

I escalated degrees of certainty. The truth is I'm not 100% confident I could do it tomorrow, but I probably could. So I am somewhat confident that I could do it tomorrow, confident that I could do it within a week, and certain I could do it within a month.
I would put money on being able to do it within a month. While being 215 pounds.
You are sorely confused about how fast your 5:08 is.

Just like you saying you could bench 225 10 times with a few months of practice?
go away yourself.

5 minute could be done with all the resources. 4 minute mile is was separates the elite runner.

Dude you are a weirdo and disturbed whoever you are.
I think I talked about being able to bench 225x10 about 6-7 years ago on here and you remember That? Weirdo.
Not that it matters, but I've done 225x10 probably 40 times in my life. That was a pretty standard part of my bench routine for years. Not that it is at all relevant to this thread. Weirdo.

Wanna talk about AL track times in HS? You'll lose that argument too. shite if you give us the HS I can really show you to be a liar.

I have a great memory and thats weird?
Usually liars dont like people with memories. They cant keep up with their lies as easily.
