We had two 10 ft. Cabbage Palms planted by our pool last October and they are doing great.

Thanks for the reply. May I ask approximate cost per tree installed.

$1,900 for both palms installed. We used Green Escapes Nursery in Prairieville to do our landscape. Very satisfied with the work and customer service.
Sylvester Palms are very nice also but cost was $3,200 for two palms installed. The price difference was the determining factor to go with Cabbage Palms.

Sago Palms are extremely toxic to dogs, so definitely don't use them FYI.
My personal experience would be to make sure its 10Ft high or taller. My parents have a couple different variety of palms around their pool and they can be a PITA because their diamter with the fronds out are huge. Which is nice for shade once above your head but when they are low they cover a large area.

If you want to save a lot of money on big expensive palms maybe worth your time to decide what and how many you want and go to Forrest hill LA with a trailer and get some. My buddy didn’t this and saved a lot of money.

Do yourself a favor, and don't. We just spent 4 weekends Removing handfuls of sago and Sylvester palms, and a 15 foot palm. I have 5 more around the pool we want to remove, as well. They make your landscaping look outdated. Very 1990s IMO. And a nightmare to remove.

You want cold hardy palms. The most cold hardy of all and great for pool sides would be a Windmill Palm. They can tolerate temps down to 5 degrees. The freeze this winter didn't affect them at all. Sylvester Palms LOOK the best in my opinion and can tolerate temps as low as 15 degrees.Get them about 4-6 feet tall where you can manage to move and plant them yourself, it will save you a ton of money.

A mule palm is also an option. We have 1 next to our pool and the freeze/snow did not kill it this year. The ends of the feather type leaves did turn brown but it's already producing new leaves so I'll be cutting those brown ones off soon.
