Hawaii doesn't seem to give up many runs.
I prefer to call them the Rainbows still, even though officially they're now the Rainbow Warriors. Here is why, from Wiki:
Former Hawaii players that you may have heard of include Kolten Wong, starting 2B for the St Louis Cardinals, and Greg Garcia, utility infielder for the St Louis Cardinals. They played together at Hawaii.
Hawaii's closer is Dylan Thomas. Here is what the Hawaii preview says about him:

Hawaii doesn't seem to give up many runs.
I prefer to call them the Rainbows still, even though officially they're now the Rainbow Warriors. Here is why, from Wiki:
quote:
A controversial change in 2000 allowed each team to pick its own team name; the football, men's volleyball, golf, and tennis teams became the Warriors, while the men's basketball and swimming & diving teams remained Rainbow Warriors, and the baseball team became the Rainbows. The women's teams, however, all remained the “Rainbow Wahine." At the same time, the school changed its athletics logo to the current stylized "H", omitting the rainbow of the old logo altogether.
On July 1, 2013, the nicknames of the university's men's sports teams were once again standardized, and all male teams at the university are now referred to as the "Rainbow Warriors."
Former Hawaii players that you may have heard of include Kolten Wong, starting 2B for the St Louis Cardinals, and Greg Garcia, utility infielder for the St Louis Cardinals. They played together at Hawaii.
Hawaii's closer is Dylan Thomas. Here is what the Hawaii preview says about him:
quote:
Not to mention the experienced closer in sophomore Dylan Thomas, who ranks sixth nationally with 4-of-5 successful save opportunities this season, working with a 2.70 ERA and six strikeouts in 6.2 innings.
Here is a quote by the other Dylan Thomas:
quote:
Do not go gentle into that good night but rage, rage against the dying of the light.

On paper, Hawaii has a strong pitching staff. What has their competition been like?

Looks like their pitchers dont walk a lot of guys. Time for a lot of first pitch swinging this weekend

They've played Air Force, Loyola Marymount, and BYU, all at home. All weekend series (as you can imagine, mid-week games are not easy to come by for the Rainbows).
Air Force is usually decent offensively, but that may be because they play a lot of games in higher altitudes. BYU and LMU are mid level programs, nothing special usually.

I used to listen to a lot of Hawaii baseball home games back when Kolten Wong was there. They had a good program and they would play so late at night that I'd have something to listen to when I was up late. I don't know if the same guy is still the radio voice from 7-8 years ago, but he was really good and the games streamed for free on the ESPN 1420 Honolulu website. May still be free on there.

I don’t care who they’ve played. Their ERAs are exceptional. All 4 of the pitchers mentioned pitched at least 15 innings. Should be good, low scoring games.

They are 7-4. Swept 3 games vs Air Force, split 2 out of 4 against BYU and 2/4 against Loyola Marymount. Most of their games have been low scoring. I don’t know much about the teams they played but none likely had the offensive potential LSU has, especially with Watson back in the lineup. I think we sweep but would be happy with 2/3. Should be a good series.

Looks like they have a fairly nice ballpark.
Les Marakami Stadium.
Found this interesting in their write up.

i'm not trying to be negative but it's a pretty blasé' park. no seats down the lines, no suites and very dull, cookie cutter like appearance.

that's why you think so highly of it. but Hawaii is no poor state and the population is high enough to support good crowds. when you get down to it, I doubt there is much competition for the sport dollar on the islands.

Damn Hess. 25 k's in 15.1 IP. That's pretty sick.

Random fact, Hawaii only has 3 head baseball coaches (That there's record of) in it's history and 1 was a 1 year interim.
