Wife wants to get a few hens to raise for eggs. With work right now I have no time to spend building a coop. Before I go buy one of the pre-fab ones at tractor supply(knowing I will have to replace it in a couple years), does anyone know a local person who builds and sells them?

Probably help to define local.

Prepare your anus because they want a ton of money for them. We have a about 6 hens left and it’s cheaper to buy eggs unless you can free range them for most of their food

Bought one from tractor supply, actually impressed with it, well designed, not the most sturdy but I figure in a few years the wife will have lost interest or be ready for a bigger one
Got it on clearance for 350 [/img]

wont last. Build one with treated lumber, check craigslist, expect to pay 4-700 for a good one. But dont put many birds in those things, they will gey bored quick in such a small area and peck each other bald. I started off with a nice chicken tractor last year someone made on craigslist. Moved it around the yd daily. Realized quick my birds was miserable confined in there, they were pecking each other. Even moving it to new grass daily. So i got the lumber and built a coop, and then bought one of those dog kennels from tractor supply. That was easiest route. Threw up the dog kennel in a few mins, then built the coop on the side and cut a hole in kennel and attached it. Boom easy, chicken coop and run.. not sure where you live but after about a week i started opening the gate every morn and let the. free range, they stay right by the house and go back to the coop at night, when i go shut the gate. Much happier chickens = more eggs

My best advice to you is to not get chickens. Believe me, you will regret it. They are a pain in the arse.
1. They shite. All. The. Time.
2. They eat. All. The. Time.
3. They stink, especially when it rains and the ground gets wet. Have you ever smelled wet chicken shite?
4. Your neighbors will hate you.
5. Your neighbors will smell the chicken shite every time it rains.
6. You will smell the chicken shite every time it rains.
7. You have to let those frickers out daily. I hope you have a way to contain them, because your neighbors will expect free eggs for allowing them to graze in their yards.
8. Have you ever tried catching a rogue chicken?
9. Chickens are fast little fricks. And they have wings.
10. Chickens are higher maintenance than a Kardashian.
