Looking for a DIY system that connects to WiFi and has an app. Just a simple setup with multiple door/window sensors and possibly motion detectors. I’ve looked into Simplisafe but what other options are out there

Nest has one, Ring has one that has been delayed because of a lawsuit that looks to be an awesome deal. They settled it, not sure what is taking so long now.

Alarm.com might sue them for some patents they acquired from Icontrol.

I have abode and haven't had any issues. Integrates well, just stay away from their streaming camera...they are still working on some issues with it

Amazon will make alarm.com go away
(Hopefully)

I'm more worried about Amazon making the Alarm system go away to protect the status quo of the alarm companies or jacking up the price to where it isn't as attractive.

amazon has the wink hub at the center of its alarm solution

I installed iSmartalarm and have been pleased. Integrates with Alexa, texts and calls me when an alarm sounds. Also can be set up to notify my neighbors if alarm is triggered and we aren't home.
Also, no contract or monthly fee.

I've had Protect America in my house the last year and a half and have no complaints with the product or service. I paid a little extra up front to have sensors on every door and window (all wireless), but after that just $45/mo for the service.

Why do you say that?
I’m a 2GIG user and I assume that would be bad for me...

Nothing against alarm.Com
it is rumored that alarm.com may sue ring regarding their upcoming alarm system. Ring's system had previously been delayed by a lawsuit from ADT that has since been settled.
Considering I have 8 ring devices between 2 properties, I am wanting to buy Rings system to integrate everything.

I'm interested to see if it plays nice with other brand devices and control systems.
Ring acquired a lighting company before it was bought by Amazon. So they very well may only play with other Ring products which sucks.

i'm considering pulling the trigger on a ring floodlight to replace the crappy $30 one i installed after we moved into our house.
i figure why spend $100 for a good floodlight when i can spend $100 more and get a camera and walkie talkie.
cant believe cad is considering buying a damn ring.

Wonder if they are dumping them since Amazon bought them. Ring is one of my lines, I'm just waiting to see what happens.
Look forward to the CAD Ring bitchfest thread. Hope you got good wifi

oh i researched it. looks like if you call them & bitch they'll send you a free 'wifi extender' (for lack of a better word).

Yeah you really need good strong WiFi near the devices. A lot of people have really shitty routers and it just doesn’t play well with that.

Yep. They will send you a free ($50 MSRP) Chime Pro if you call and go through the troubleshooting with them

No shite. I have Gigabit internet (1000 up 1000 down) with 3 wired access points around my house and yard.
I was extremely surprised when I had issues with one of my floodlight cams and had to get creative with placement of a chime pro.
