That sucks about the yukon golds. I currently have them in a can. I guess I only have a handful of them and a bunch of red potato's.

I have to say that they produced really heavy for me even at one level. We did 20 plants of each red and gold and were giving potatoes away. We got almost 50 lbs of potatoes from 40 plants. That's also why we cut back our plants by half.

How deep did you plant the golds? I wonder if I plant them deeper in a box they will produce more rather than just barely covering them and adding soil and it grows.

I planted them about 4-5" deep. Even then, I was having to add some more soil to keep some from poking through the surface and get sunburned.

Next Wednesday's temperatures are predicting lows of 36 where I'm at. That's getting close to the danger zone

I just uncovered my cucumbers (the one's I already planted) this morning. They look good. Good thing I didn't go too far with the plastic though. Looks like I'll have to drag it back out by Sunday.
Hopefully this will be winter's last hoorah.

There's a slight frost this morning. I hope everything survives.

Everything is going well so far for my garden. Tomatoes are blooming. Even some of the potato plants have begun to bloom. I will side dress them this weekend. I am trying something new with the peppers. I pruned the tops off of all of my pepper plants. I snipped all the plants right above the second set of leaves to get the plants to full out more and not be so leggy like they normally are. So far, so good. All but two have leaf shoots coming out at the leaf junctions 5 days later. This is supposed to make the plants much wider and bushier for better production. I figured it was early enough in the season that it was worth a shot. If they die, there is plenty of time for more to replace.

Anybody have a way besides BB gun to keep dogs away?

I’ve heard spreading cayenne pepper will do the trick for dogs and cats. I’m about to try it. I’ve been having a problem with cats.

I spread about a fricken cup of cayenne pepper all over my beds after I found the third cat turd beside one of my pepper plants yesterday. I will report back. Citrus is supposed to be a deterrent for cats as well. I planted a citronella plant last year and had 0 cats in the bed. Just no room for the plant this year.

Yes. I used to put orange peels in my potted plants when I had a problem with them getting in my big pots. It worked.

Just got home. Looks like the cold air didn’t phase the plants at all.

I like your setup.

Thanks.
I fear that if I ever make a much bigger garden, that setup won’t be very practical. It would probably cost too much for what I’d get out of it. I’ll cross that bridge if I ever come to it.
