The Future of Lady Tiger Basketball

While we still have the NCAA tournament left and definitely have what it takes to impress and make it to a Sweet 16 (or more if the cards fall right), I really am more interested in what the future holds for this program. Afterall, we are due to return soon to “elite” status.
Reasons why I think why the next several years could be special for Lady Tiger Basketball regardless of what happens in the post season:
•Chloe Jackson returns, and likely for 2 more years (2nd year player for LSU w/ medical redshirt at NC State...not entirely sure if eligible for 2 years, at least back for one). This national Top 10 finalist for the Ann Meyers award is only in her 2nd season playing for the Lady Tigers, and this second year she’s proved to be a huge asset. Leading scorer, smooth jump shot, can hit 3’s, seems to have “picked up a thing or two” from Raigyne regarding defense and steals, seems like a very “cerebral” player who makes good decisions, good ball handling, and handles pressure well. When push comes to shove, Jackson steps up.
•Ayana Mitchell. She has really grown and stepped up her sophomore season, especially the last month or so. She has started to become a rebounding machine, and she can put up baskets. She has the potential to be a double-double machine the next two years. Her and Chloe Jackson are also strong leaders for this team moving forward. Starting to show why she was a Top 100 recruit out of High School.
•Jaelyn Richard-Harris: I was unsure of this sophomore last year, but this year she’s impressed me. Her energy more than makes up for her size and she can knock down 3’s. Moving forward, would like to see her become a more consistent 3 point shooter. When she has knocked down several 3’s for us, we’ve shined.
•Freshmen:
-Khayla Pointer: can knock down 3’s, good ball handling, smart passes, can drive to the basket. A Top 100 recruit that has shown growth this season and has the potential for much more next year.
-Faustine: has the size, can block, has potential to put up more points and needs to hustle more
-Raven: has the size, a McDonald
All-American and Top 100 recruit, has the potential to do as much damage as Ayana, and maybe more?
-Cherry: this freshman has surprised me this year, especially as of late. Has a sweet jump shot from the side. I can see so much potential from her after the off season. She can be an offensive machine. She also plays with such focus and intensity.
•Other: Yasmine, sophomore: has size, hustle, has potential to develop more offensively.
•The fact that there are so many players to comment on for next year, and I didn’t even hit all of them, is night and day compared to a few years ago when we were short on players, much less good players.
•Nikki Fargas: she can coach, and she can develop players. Even her critics don’t argue that. Tennesse Vols fans want to steal her away for a reason.
•Mickie DeMoss: Former Associate HC with legendary Pat Summit herself, Hall of Fame Coach, earned herself a reputation for recruiting. Credit seems to go to her for landing Farley (don’t know how accurate that is), but I feel like we’ve felt her presence so to speak this last year for sure.

Great info, I see a bright future but Nikki still needs to recruit La harder. Baylor comes in and get La best player every year

Chloe is a transfer and junior.
Tennessee wants Fargas?
Fargas better up her game if she plans to move to Tennessee, she will have to work, they will not accept the poor recruiting standards she showed here at LSU.
Fargas is overpaid and has not improved LSU WBB. Let her go to UT and fire Alleva and never allow him to make another hire at LSU, seriously!!!!

I think she solved the recruiting problem by bringing in Hall of Famer Mickie DeMoss (former Associate Head Coach with Pat Summit at UT). This freshman class this year and the post players we finally have erased any doubts I had about Fargas as HC. I think as long as Mickie is here with Nikki, we’ll be good.

Chloe is a transfer and a junior, and she’s a second year player. It’s my understanding that due to a medical redshirt at NC State her true freshman year, she should have 2 years of eligibility left. I haven’t been able to verify that for sure, but it’s what’s been suggested by LSU.
Regarding Tennessee wanting her, I think she won’t have any issues recruiting from a storied program like Tennessee. Recruits fall into your lap it seems. If Holly can get the recruits she get with her reputation as being a mediocre coach, I’m sure Fargas would do better there (but I want her here, especially with DeMoss on her staff).
Speaking of DeMoss, see all of all my other comments regarding DeMoss and recruiting. We have a GREAT class of Freshman, and that’s just year 1. We have post players now, my only real criticism of her recruiting before. They’re young, but if they did what they did this year, just wait until next year.

I work at Ursuline Academy in NOLA. We won state last night for the second time in three years. We have a Florida State signee and a Kansas signee on that team. Both are very good students and just great young girls, . You know how many letters or visits these girls got from LSU? Not one.

Care to take a guess as to why?
Not much diversity on that roster.

I appreciate the effort, but think about what you posted here...
Fargas is overpaid and lazy af on the recruiting trail. So we basically have to rely on her assistant to do the job, and as long as that assistant is here, we will be fine.
frick that.

Ursuline players are legit
Nikki Caldwell Fargas is lazy and let her go to Tennessee.
As for DeMoss, she is long in the teeth and her best resume bullet is her tenure with Pat Summitt. Suffice to say, if MD is NCF's saviour, well I reiterate, let her go to Tennessee. Fargas will go to UT and WORK, because she will have no choice and SHE LOVES UT, pretty much like Madame Peppa when she came her to retire. Similar but not matching and let that Ole Mare enjoy her LSU Golden Parachute.
Joe Dean hire Madame P and Joe Alleva hired Cleopatra. Fire them both posthaste..............we need loyalty and excellence......with a work ethic like Will Wade.

Do you even know anything about what you’re talking about or do you just let crap that sounds good to you spill out? Do you really actually follow the program? Go to all the home games? At least watch all the away games on TV? If not, sit down and shut up.

You may have a case with the girl committed to Fla. State, but Kansas women's basketball? I'm quite certain she just isn't that good.
I defend Nikki all the time but the two players from Ursuline including the one who committed to Kansas are both 4/5 star players, players who are definitely SEC talent. Brooklyn Mitchell had several offers from many top programs. I don't know much about her recruitment in particular but Weber was a major miss, she would be a starter if she had come here. She is a fantastic player.
As far as Webers recruitment I do know there was major miscommunication between LSU and her. I don't know all details but I couldn't believe it when she committed to FSU considering she was a LSU fan.
Nikki has done a phenomenal job this year and I'm excited to see what she can do in the future but I will admit I am very disappointed with how we missed on two major prospect right down the road in NOLA. Just means 2019 is a can't miss at all type class, there will be a lot of pressure to haul in a top class. 2019 does have two top prospects, so we need to make sure we can pick them up.

Are they even recruiting the two Young's (one from Evangel and the other from Loranger). I know they are recruiting Sania Wells from the MS coast but all these guards are 5'7-9 along with the commit from DeRidder. She needs to recruit taller 5'9-6' to play on the wings and that can score.

What do you think about Cyndi Dodd from Indiannapolis? I know we were one of the schools she is considering. I think she would be good to land, but you seemed to know more than I do.
I’ve been more concerned about post players than guards*, that’s been where I felt we were lacking before.
*why I wasn’t too disappointed in not nabbing one of the Ursuline girls, but I do agree 2019 and 2020 will be key recruiting-wise for us (though success on the court next year goes a long way).

I saw Tasha Butts at Mingo-Young of Loranger game last year but judging by twitter seems the interest has been lost between the 2. Alabama has offered her and I’ve seen them at a few of her games this year! The other Young, Tasha likes about everything she tweets.

Great, I’m glad we have Mickie. But how long will she be around? You can’t depend on assistant coaches to make up for a head coach’s shortcomings; look no further than Ed Orgeron and “elite coordinators.”
I just do not understand why Vargas can not recruit.
I would have thought by now we’d have another Big Syl or Augustus.
