Most of the time is down time

I’m not sure what branch you were in but that doesn’t sound accurate at all. We had very little down time. I’m sure a lot of that depends on the branch and unit you were in. If you’re on a ship in the Navy, I could see there being a lot of down time (but I’m not really sure there either).

Maybe national guard has a ton of downside or something, idk. but it’s bullshite to listen to some of these guys with absolutely no experience in these situations present that they have knowledge of them. We had some bad recruits get through the cracks and get into boot camp but most of those washed out within a month.

Some of us have friends that won’t ever return home or came home in a box and I’m not going to listen to some posters basically call them dumbasses who couldn’t get into college. The standards in place right now actually make it really difficult to put kids in. I think a lot of guys think people just walk into a recruiting station and you’re shipped off 2 weeks later. There’s a ton of medical hurdles, background checks, etc to get through before you’re even able to attend boot camp.

Quartermaster/supply in the Army. When we didn't have something to do... plenty of downtime.

Look I get what you're saying. I do. Some people don't understand the sacrifices service members make. Good on them. Our armed forces is all volunteer and I like it that way.

I have a former co-worker that was in the marines and this guy never shut up about being a devil dawg. I mean 24/7 telling stories to people that didn't care. It was rather embarrassing as a veteran. The past is exactly the past. I know what honorable service I did and uncle sam knows what honorable service I did. Don't be that guy that has to glorify his time because honestly most people don't care and it makes thw military in general look like a bunch of socially inept morons and trust me this former co-worker was only one of many who was looking for a pat on the back for something that he volunteered for.
