re: Hypothetical 2: Should a known ISIS sympathizer, who is a US Citizen, be able to buy a gun

Then I think it is clear. It is foolish to limit the rights of an entire populace because of some remote risk.

The Do Not Fly list is a bureaucratic mess run by bureaucrats. They should not have the power to overrule 2nd amendment rights.

I understand and respect that. No matter what, if you’re a US Citizen you’re good to go for the 2nd Amendment. That’s cool and I respect it. Disagree but respect.

The question is what is the criteria for no fly? Your rights have already been restricted. Therefore, you have been judged a danger. It logical to extrapolate that to the 2nd and I would have no problem theoretically
The question is who and what determines you are a danger. The government? What is the process and what is the criteria?

The Do Not Fly list effectiveness is really another subject for another thread. I get the point but don’t want to derail this thread as is.

By the way, you people would be shocked I’m all MAGA and a trump voter/supporter.

You disagree with US Citizens exercising constitutional rights?
Can’t say I am surprised.

I know you keep trying to troll me, and maybe you haven’t noticed, but up until this posts I’m just ignoring your ad hominems. You can keep trying if it makes you feel good but I probably won’t respond again.

Will you put one of my “Gun Free Zone” yard signs out on your lawn?

No he is putting forth a legitimate question as to under what circumstance should a US citizen be denied that right.

I agree those are dumb. I do not think the Do Not Fly list is dumb. That’s cool that you consider them equals though.

The do not fly list is a non issue in this scenario. You can be put on without your knowledge, without due process, and it’s nearly impossible to argue your case.
ISIS sympathizers are entitled to their opinion. So we should strip their rights simply because of what they believe?

I think taking away a persons priveledge to fly is less serious than taking away a persons right to self defense. For that reason different processes should be required.

Is the free movement via an airplane a constitutionally protected right? I’m not aware of that. It’s the same as driving. A privilege, not a right.
We aren’t talking about convictions after you’ve had the opportunity to prove your innocence that place you there. The process as I understand it is you’ve shown a pattern of support or sympathy for known enemies of the US government. Now to what level that is, I don’t know. I don’t think some kid in El Paso posting about how he wants to be a Taliban fighter will be one or even take steps to become one. If he does, it is at that point he is placed there. I would think.
That doesn’t mean we should violate their constitutional rights based on accusations.

Im with you until the last word. Does it matter if we change accusations to gathered intelligence?

You have freedom of travel association etc. why should that be restricted? On the basis of the governments judgement that you might be a threat
