Muzzle velocity isn't everything... the AK-47 fires rounds significantly slower than the AR-15, but they'll kill you just as easily.
AR-15 muzzle velocity - 3,200 ft/s
AK-47 - 2,346 ft/s
I swear though I get fed up with the whole "vs a handgun" as if every handgun is made with identical specs.
Vast difference between a 9mm Beretta and a Desert Eagle .50 cal, but they're both "handguns"

In a closed environment with obstructions an AK is more lethal. Leisure Suit Larry doesnt know what the frick he's getting into with muzzle velocity.

Yep, and an AK will usually do more damage. You can see tons of AR vs. AK tests on youtube where people shoot at cars, steel plates, etc.
