Once you have someone fire even a single shot back at an active shooter, he has to take account of this person, slow down what he's doing, and possibly take cover or flee. All of which turns this from a literal free-for-all into a standoff AND gives law enforcement more time to arrive and respond. Not to mention it makes the entire situation a lot more mentally taxing to begin with for the shooter, knowing that you won't be able to freely walk the halls of the school shooting an entirely defenseless student population.
Absolutely. The whole idea of "gun free safe zones" is absurd. We need to start allowing more weapons of some sort whether it be tazers, less than lethal rounds, or something. I mean allow some bean bag rounds or something. Not to sound absurd no one wants to confront real bullets with less than lethal, but if you can have something to side track a shooter like this for even 1-2 minutes you save countless lives.
Not to mention, all of these shootings occur where the shooters have essentially no danger until the police arrive. That's the biggest issue, is we need to take that lack of presence away and felt safety away.

Sorry. I totally blew that. The data set was for 4 years - 2013-2017. I said it was for last year. Brain fart.

Good point. But we already know what the comparison would be, right? Across the board, there's more gun violence of any type in the US - unless you go to developing countries for comparison.
At least that's what I would assume.

AND, if one life is spared due to them, its worth it.
no it really isn't. If you truly believe that, you need to home school your kids. Hell, ban schools completely and we'll never have another school shooting ever.
