They overplayed their hand. Omarosa saw the ICE DACA plans. They are going into effect.

Good.

Trump's immigration proposal is horse shite. It's basically Reagan's 1986 amnesty on steroids and would turn Texas, Arizona and Georgia blue.

I hate to break it to you, but this is as good as it will get. It's amnesty for whose here, but stops the bleeding which is key.

If you expect any immigration reform to include mass deportations- you're clueless. If this continues without legislation until the next time the GOP controls the presidency, senate and house, you're tryIng to make a deal with 10M daca kids. Not 2.

Take the deal now and stop the bleeding.

Solving this issue is the last thing they want right now

They're stalling in the hopes it remains an issue till the primaries so they can campaign on a "Republicans failed to fix immigration" platform.

That's not even the biggest problem here and that's only small potatoes I can do without.

The biggest problem here is that it allows for sunset provisions where it would take us well into the 2020s long after Trump left office to finally and permanently end chain migration and the diversity lottery and that can be canceled any time by a GOPe or Democrat President.

I could reasonably stomach it if it called for immediate termination of those two programs and no sunset provisions. Those two programs are where the majority of the brunt of the excessive and and stupid immigration policies we have come from.

It's a terrible deal and Reagan's amnesty on steroids.

We're already seeing a spike in border arrests at the border thanks to Trump's irresponsible and stupid amnesty talk and constant bloviating about how he wants to "fix DACA"; that usually happens when you take away the deterrent of spoken language that's tough on illegal immigration and give up the farm to democrats just to win silly political points.

I agree - but don't lose focus. Those things will ALWAYS be subject to being overturned by a party that owns the presidency and congress.

You know what's a lot harder to do than put ink on paper? Deconstruct a wall. Get that wall, and drugs decrease. Crimes decrease. Anchor babies decrease. The wall will stay.

Can't eat an entire elephant in one bite.

So now you've narrowed your target to prevent states from turning blue (chain and lottery). That's much more manageable (another bite).

If this legislation doesn't get passed, nothing has been gained and it will only get worse when the pendulum inevitably swings.

How will it be determined who’s “here”? And what is to stop millions of others currently living outside the US from claiming they’ve been “here” as well?

Dunno, but everyone seems to agree it's around 2 M. So they must have a way.

I don’t like there not being some type of punishment for the fact people are here illegally; however, the process will take a long time to get total legal status.
