Except a local sim is significantly cheaper than the $10/day. Adds up on a long trip.

For those of you that travel to Mexico and Canada. This is just in case you didn’t know already. AT&T and Verizon operate the same there as in the states. You just need to log into your account once and check the box for Mexican service. No roaming, no data charges, nothing. It acts as if you’re on your regular plan with your provider. Well, I guess you are.

Im pretty sure Verizon only charges you if you actually use the data that day. So you can sign up for it and have it available, have your phone on wifi only all day, then if you have an emergency or situation worth paying the $10/ day then you can use it instantly.

Wife and I did this in London this year. If we got separated we'd use our phones and then had them for the day. But normally only used wifi. I think for an 8 day trip we only payed like $70 for the both of us.

Getting a chip is definitely cheaper. I just wanted people to know that it's not something you have to activate and use every day you are there, you can be selective and save money.
