Received this in an email. Interesting response from NFL to the content of the ad once they realized what it would include.

quote:

The NFL has told the nation's largest veterans service organization, American Vets, its patriotic ad that encourages people to stand for the American flag and national anthem will not be tolerated.

AMVETS had been solicited by the NFL to place an ad in the Super Bowl LII program. When the submitted advertisement included a two-word message, "#PleaseStand", the NFL suddenly threw the penalty flag at veterans and gave the game ball to Team Censorship.

"It's a simple, polite request that represents the sentiment of our membership, particularly those whose missing or paralyzed limbs preclude standing," National Commander Marion Polk wrote in a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

"Freedom of speech works both ways. We respect the rights of those who choose to protest, as these rights are precisely what our members have fought – and in many cases died – for," Polk added in the letter. "But imposing corporate censorship to deny that same right to those veterans who have secured it for us all is reprehensible and totally beyond the pale."

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told the Army Times that the advertisement program "is designed for fans to commemorate and celebrate the game, players, teams, and the Super Bowl."

McCarthy added, "It's never been a place for advertising that could be considered by some as a political statement."

The AMVETS chief noted the irony that the NFL continues to claim that the anti-American protests by millionaire players on the field represent "free speech" even as the league denies free speech to AMVETS.

AMVETS officials said the same #PleaseStand ad was accepted by the National Hockey League and Major League Baseball for inclusion in their all-star games' programs. The organization sees the advertisement as an extension of their role as a 'nonpartisan advocate for veterans and their families.'"

I don't watch the NFL anymore. However, I can see why they didn't want to bring this stuff into the Super Bowl. Kind of a poke in the eye.

Why would the NFL want someone stirring up a BS controversy on their biggest night?

It’s reall fricking sad when patriotism and the US flag is “controversial.” If you don’t respect this country or the flag, move to Haiti.

I’ll watch a live stream of the Super Bowl just for the national anthem to see who kneels, and I’ll be tuning out after that

patriotism isn't controversial, but this non-story that trump brought into the mainstream is getting old.

Just let it die out. Why stir the pot. Those tactics is what got us into this in the first place.

1. This is not a freedom of speech issue

2. Way to make veterans seem like total pussies. Must be an admin bitch.

Ummm... anyone remember the commercial from LAST YEAR that showed the Mexican immigrant trying to illegally cross the border, but was dismayed at the sight of (what can only be interpreted as) Trump’s Wall?

Lol. I respect the South a lot. But no way is Little Rock a better place to live than NYC, even with our loud SJW population.

You think the veterans would have gotten the message the first time it was rejected.

It’s a good move by the NFL. They do not allow political ads. The NFL would have put itself right smack in the middle of even more controversy by allowing this.

I am always amazed at how offen people try to wrongly apply freedom of speech.

What’s wrong with that?
We want them to be discouraged from coming here on the top of trains. If you are riding on top a train, you are broke as shite. When your poor arse gets here, what are you going to do to eat. Answer, anything. Steal, rob, kill or beg for the US taxpayers to feed your worthless poor arse. Stay your dumb poor arse in your own shithole country because you are useless here except as a political pawn and an anchor baby future commie voting machine. We will never welcome you here. We have to pay for enough useless people now to eat rather than feed a motherfricker that doesn’t belong here.

That was a commercial from a lumber company who bought television air time through the network. The NFL does not have final approval over the tv ads that are sold by the network airing the super bowl.

This is literally an ad in the NFL produced paper programs that will be available to people at the game.
