This only started happening after I installed a new hard drive on the PC. Is this a sign that the power supply is about to fail, or did I do something wrong when I installed the new hard drive?

It sounds like the new drive is putting on an additional strain on an old power supply and your system settings is set to restart on system failure....so it appears to be restarting randomly. This happen to me. I put in a new 750 watt PS and all problems went away.
Hope this helps......

Check your system log to see the error code for the failure before you start spending money.

Have you checked if it’s getting hot?

There’s some free temp programs to check it. I think coretemp is one?
