Top softball recruit commits to LSU over Auburn (BOOM)

Today, Alea Johnson committed to LSU over Auburn
Dad graduated from Auburn too
Alea is another top pitcher out of the state of Alabama and plays for the thunderbolts organization. She had the interest of the entire SEC and other major programs such as FSU.
Alea was dominant this past summer in California, playing the best players in the country while dominating in the circle and at the plate.
Alea and her teammate Roe (Florida commit) made the thunderbolts one of the best travel ball teams in the country this past year. Alea has also dominated top talent who are older than her.
She has excellent velocity and movement on her pitches and continues to improve everyday.
I do not have statistics at the moment but I am working on it.
With the likely addition of new recruiting rules, all coaches as of now are scrambling to make connections with the top prospects in the country right now. This is a major pickup for LSU. The 2022 class is highly praised and well noticed by a lot of top coaches as it is unanimously considered a top 3 class.
LSU also is rumored to be in the running for an elite 2019 prospect. There is currently a camp with top prospect and coaches at LSU now, so don't be surprised if another pickup comes extremely soon. LSU will have more top recruits on campus in the coming weeks.

I realize that softball recruiting is quite different than football. But I am wondering how frequent is flipping in softball recruiting. It seems that it would be hard to keep so many HS freshmen all the way to signing.

Honestly in my 30 years of coaching HS ball, almost every time a softball player commits early, they stick with it. Coaches are pretty good about leaving them alone once they commit.

And to think I was thrilled with the Patrick Murphy hire (sort of). We could not have landed a better coach and person to represent the team and program.

Hope Beth is here for a long time. She has he softball program in very good position.

We have idiots who downvote the gymnastics team beating a top 5 ranked Florida
But there are some posters on here who look for Beth to fail , its ridiculous

Maybe after a player transferred to a school in central Texas of the Baptist denomination, a lot of that crap will stop.

Can you please elaborate on this?
Thanks for all of your recruiting updates! Much appreciated!

Probably something like educote or some other travel ball coach that thinks they know better than Beth Torina and could go undefeated every year and win the WCWS.
Don’t kid yourself either. There’s a few out there that post here that actually think they could pull that off.

Softball community wants to alter recruiting rules so contact won't occur between players and coaches until their junior year.
Today there is a MAJOR recruiting problem not just in softball but in other sports. Kids as little at 10 and 11 year olds are recruited and take on unofficials way before they even hit hs
Now LSU does partake in this but because we have no choice. In order to pick up the best players in the country, you have to recruit them earlier and pick em up before they are snatched up by another top program. Its extremely messy and it makes it difficult on coaches to truly evaluate where a player will be years from now. Now a lot of this spiraled out of control after a few coaches decided to start.
A lot of coaches are to blame for this issue but parents and the athletes make it difficult too on coaches by putting pressure on coaches to make an offer before they pack up and head to another top school.
Its now out of hand. This year we have seen players in only 7th offered a full scholarship. Florida has done it for TWO players already. If they did that, it means they scouted and evaluated when the kid was in 6th, at least.
What makes this all unfortunate, a lot of kids bloom and peak when they hit their junior and senior years of hs. They may be excellent but now all top schools spots are all filled so they don;t have a shot at a top school. Very few kids decide as a senior now today.
LSU was fortunate to pick up one as a senior this past class with Kilponen. Beth made some room because she was a star pitcher who really developed and came on late

Great post TigerBait..But I have one question when this goes thru which I think it should does this hurt the relationship that kids who committed in 2020,2021,2022 because they now can't take unofficial trips anymore or build a bond with other kids in their class...Granted 2020 only have to go thru 4 months of this rule but what about the 2021s ???

Must have been an Auburn fan. Lots of trolling on this site. Small minded individuals with nothing better to do.

I had some D1 coaches at my clinic last week in Houston and we talked about that exact question... seems the consensus is that is the unknown in this proposal. Will the coaches be able to continue to contact their commitments or not? The answer looks to be no, so will these players still stick with their original commitments or not? That is the $64,000 question right now.
