More detail

The New Orleans Saints placed defensive lineman Tony McDaniel on injured reserved, a source told NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune's Herbie Teope.

McDaniel becomes the 20th player the Saints have placed on injured reserve this season following guard Andrus Peat's addition to the list earlier Wednesday.

The move was later confirmed on Wednesday's NFL Transactions report and he joins Andrus Peat as two players the Saints placed on injured reserve.

Peat suffered broken fibula in opening round of playoffs

McDaniel had three tackles in the Saints' regular season finale, a 31-24 loss to Tampa Bay, and he played in 12 defensive snaps in New Orleans' Wild card win against the Carolina Panthers.

He was with the Saints in the preseason and appeared in five regular season games with the San Francisco 49ers.

To address depth on the defensive line the Saints elevated defensive tackle Woodrow Hamilton to the 53-man roster from the practice squad, according to the NFL transaction report, and signed defensive tackle Jeremy Liggins to the practice squad.

The 6-foot-3, 315-pound Hamilton entered the league in 2016 out of Mississippi with the New England Patriots, and played in Super Bowl 51. He joined the Saints practice squad during the 2017 season.

I assume he is. He was always the size of a DT.

That's a damn athletic DT. Pretty sure he ran the ball a good bit as a QB.

This is starting to feel like a couple years ago when Green Bay had a ridiculous number of dudes on IR but were still winning in the playoffs or when the Patriots had receivers playing as defensive backs due to injuries. It’s just one of those years, good bad or indifferent

RB Daniel Lasco (week 10)

OC Jack Allen (preseason)
OT Zach Strief (week 4)
OG Andrus Peat (playoffs-Panthers)

DT Nick Fairley (NFI-preseason)
DT Mitchell Loewen (week 2)
DT David Parry (week 3)
DT John Hughes (week 16)
DT Tony McDaniel (playoffs-Panthers)
DE Alex Okafor (week 11)
DE Hau'oli Kikaha (week 16)
LB A.J. Klein (week 15)

I'd take that IR defense over most of the defenses we've had in the Sean Payton era

Pretty much. Just need another CB & Safety.

Who would have thought DB would be our least injured position on defense?

Thank God for Kelemente being so versatile.

I know that 3 of these came late in the season, but damn... It's crazy to think about how much more this D could do if we didn't have this list.

Stupar would probably be getting a ton of playing time as well with Klein & Anzalone being out.

Gotta give Ireland credit for loading us up with depth.
