Actually, you are more right than you think. This bubble is absolutely going to burst, and stupid shite like this will just hasten it.
Where does ALL the new money that every SEC school is waving around right now come from? Sports television. What is dying an accelerating death as we speak? Sports television, especially ESPN. Where is most of the SEC money coming from? Their patsy network propped up by ESPN. No matter what form ESPN survives in, there will NEVER be another TV deal like the SEC got last time around. There won’t be anyone to give it. If you think Netflix or Amazon will step up, then read on.
The numbers in the article from a few weeks ago are ugly.

Ratings for college football are already dropping across the board, including the SEC. it isn’t just the NFL. The peak has passed and we are at the beginning of the downward slope. Combine lower ratings with people dropping cable in growing numbers and you don’t have a slow decline. You have the sports version of 2008 coming.
The conference will NEVER make as much in subscription fees selling game streaming direct to fans as they make in cable tv revenue right now. They are already pricing middle class consumers out of game tickets. There is nowhere programs can turn to make up the tens of millions that are going to disappear soon. Right now we are at the top of the coaster, and the ride down is going to kill a lot of programs. We will look back at situations like this in the future and laugh.
