Why do historically black fraternities brand their members?

I saw one of OU’s players with a huge Omega on his left arm and made me wonder. It seems really strange.

Idk, but in white fraternities that would most definitely be hazing and those fraternities would be kicked off campus.

It's not mandatory. I knew a lot of Alphas and Qs in college. The branding is optional but for the diehards
