I was still young at the time, but I remember this happening.

How important was that kick?

Playoff hope?

The most Saints sequence of all time, at least before the Payton/Brees era.

Will credit Carney for owning up to his choke and taking it like a gentleman.

Also, to answer the OP, a win that day would not have resulted in a playoff berth. I believe a Dallas victory eliminated the Saints. Could be wrong in that.

I grew up during the Mora years, I was expecting the XP miss.

I did.

I actually turned to a friend and said "Still have to make the extra point ha"

And then he missed it.

There was about 5-6 of us and we just said there in silence. No reaction. No screams. Just fricking silence staring at the TV.

No. We weren't making the playoffs that year regardless.

we were watching at a family Christmas get-together

I hit my knees and face hit the floor on the missed PAT b/c (even though another result may have already done it beforehand) any fan realized any little flicker of playoff life left in that Saints team just went out on that missed PAT

As I just put in another post before I saw yours...

I seem to remember coming into that day knowing we needed a win plus other results to go our way in order to keep our (albeit tiny) playoff hopes alive.

I believe 1 of those other results we needed had just gone against how we needed and had been officially eliminated from the playoff picture just before Carney's boot sent the PAT wide left

Correct, but were eliminated later that day so still had hope during the game.

Watching game with another lifelong Saints fan at a bar in another city, had closed out and about to leave. Play happens, of course we open a new tab and order drinks for overtime. Had full beers placed in front of us just as the XP was missed. One of the saddest beers of my life!
