I ask the question, not too troll. I am because I've never dealt with it. Never had a dog grow that old without something external happening forcing it to be put down. (Cancer, HGE, severe disease)
I currently have a 12 year old dog and it sucks knowing that this comes soon.

I wasn’t trying to troll either. That’s the difference. A dog doesn’t know why you keep bringing it to the vet (which is a place it doesn’t like) and it’s miserable and in pain.
I’ve had many dogs come and go, some had to be put down. It sucks for sure, but afterwards I always felt like I did the right thing.
We basically do it with people in a round a bout way. Modern medicine could probably keep somebody “alive” for a exorbitant timespan in many instances. We take people off of life support, opt to not put them on feeding tubes, things like that. We might not bring them out back and put a bullet in them, but we do essentially decide that it’s time for them.
