Anyone else get this email? Can’t remember getting this last year.

IMPORTANT TAX INFORMATION
Louisiana law requires that we send you an annual summary of your purchases from Newegg. This summary is a tax document which we are required to send to you by your choice of mail or email. To receive this summary by regular mail, please opt-in here

Aren’t you “supposed” to report purchases from sites like amazon and Newegg who don’t charge sales tax unless you reside in their state?

I’ve literally never reported anything come tax season and I’m not locked up

I received one because we've made some purchases via their business account.
Don't know if Newegg references an LA Dept. of Revenue form number or if it's a summary list.

The real question is did Newegg send the info to John Bell's tax henchmen.

I often share this story when this topic comes up. I don't remember all the details, but it's a good cautionary tale. Back in the 90s, or early 2000s, when cigar smoking was popular, the state convinced the mail order company Thompson Cigars to turn over their customer list. The state didn't know how much if any those customers ordered. They reviewed each customer's tax return to see if they paid any use tax. If they did, the state left them alone. If they didn't, then they started an audit.

I don't know if they are going to do the same thing with Newegg's customers, but it might be worth paying some use tax.
