LSU better have made a great offer and not just let him walk out the door
I find that LSU does not publicize their offers and counteroffers. a lot of it is TAF money and not LSU's anyway.
however, that fact is not relevant; a rumor will be started on here and trust me, it will be anti-LSU and anti-Alleva, and it will be embraced and become a "Rantfact". soon this lie will become universally accepted.
Pilot Tiger, I hate to break your heart, but LSU is not going to tell you shite about this deal. Austin Thomas went home. he is very good at what he does but he is not irreplaceable.

Thomas turned down a counteroffer raise. And for the record Recruiting is definitely slipping: In the five seasons Thomas spent on LSU’s staff, the Tigers have finished with the nation’s No. 2 recruiting class (2014), No. 5 class (2015), No. 2 class (2016), No. 7 class and currently have the No. 13 class for the 2018 cycle with the first signing period quickly approaching.
Jeremy Pruitt was Recruiter of the Year twice and Thomas in his home state with his recruiting background is likely going to vault Tenn with their 12 Recruits well up into the Top 15.
quote:
”For the 2017 recruiting cycle, 247Sports named Thomas the nation’s 10th best individual recruiter. Pretty remarkable considering he’s not even on staff at LSU as a coach. Every other member of the individual top 25 recruiters list is an assistant or head coach.
That lofty ranking came after Thomas led the charge in LSU landing two five-star prospects from Tennessee — defensive back JaCoby Steven and linebacker Jacob Phillips. In an unusual move, LSU took defensive line coach Pete Jenkins off the road this time last year and replaced him with Thomas. The move obviously paid off for the Tigers with two crucial signatures.
How did LSU land the two prospects everyone in the nation wanted, including flipping Phillips’ Oklahoma commitment at the final hour?
“All Austin,” Orgeron said to James Bewers of The Advocate. “He got Jacob Phillips. I knew (Austin) was going to be good, but those results are phenomenal. I didn’t know we were going to get those results.
“Very rare to get two five-star recruits to come to LSU your first go around (at off-campus recruiting).

Good hopefully this will stop all the stupid Austin Thomas threads on the Rant.

He went home. I doubt there was much Alleva could do.
We were middle and high school classmates. He was always a huge UT fan growing up. Sad to see him leave LSU, but I'd imagine UT was his dream job.

Why are y’all mad at Alleva? Austin obviously wanted to work for his home school.
Because our fans are idiots and don't understand how things work. Blaming the AD is convenient.

Well since his main responsibilities are not recruiting there is no way to tell exactly. His main value was not in recruiting. He was lauded for managing the program, talent identification, organization of camps and recruiting events, management of the lower level recruiting staff etc. His recruiting ties were an added bonus to his main duties. I’m sure you guys are right though. Because 247 doesn’t have him listed as any 5 star commit’s main recruiter, LSU doesn’t need him.

Austin Thomas Could Be the Biggest Hire Of Pruitt's Tenn Staff
Thomas is credited with 6 Total Commits and Two 5 stars in the 2017 Class:

LSU general manager, Thomas was the first person ever to hold that title in the history of the SEC, had been a member of the Tigers’ staff since 2013. He also held a brief role at USC as an assistant athletics director before ultimately returning to LSU.
Thomas began his tenure at LSU by helping the Tigers secure the No. 2 overall class in the nation for the 2014 recruiting cycle. He briefly left Baton Rouge when USC offered him a promotion. However, LSU felt Thomas’ loss immediately and took drastic action to lure him back to the SEC. LSU made Thomas the SEC’s first general manager.
“When Austin left, this place went to chaos,” LSU head coach Ed Orgeron told Feldman, according to his FOX column. “It was crazy.”

Coach O offered chaisson before anybody else ever offered him. Austin Thomas had very little to do with him coming to LSU.

It made me think of the goat song by Adam Sandler.

You do know AT was responsible for finding players and identifying talent and inviting them to camps right? You dont think maybe AT had something to do with Ed O being the first to offer KC?

They offered a raise. No one knows how much of a raise or how it compared to Tennessee's offer. Assuming LSU didn't cheap out is premature.
