The football season is over. The bowl game is an exhibition.

***This topic is specifically about players that are headed to the NFL Draft after this bowl game. Thank you.***
Some of the players have figured this out. The sooner that more of the fans figure it out, the happier they will be. I know that happiness is a literal impossibility for some fans, but that is another point.
The point is that this game means ZERO in the grand scheme for players with immediate aspirations towards the NFL Draft. This game will not add to their draft stock. That film is already in the can.
Now the player could go out there and risk major injury in a pointless game for arbitrary reasons that fans (who are not invested in the players' futures) contrive at their convenience.
It is all risk and no reward to the NFL bound players to play in this "game".
Truth hurts sometimes, and we need to comes to terms with it.

this is only half true. great chance for young guys to step up. first team reps in the extra practices and in a game situation they would not otherwise be allowed.
you are not seeing the whole picture.

These players get a free education, a meal plan, world class weight training, world class athletic facilities, free press, unlimited amounts of gear, and all the poon they can handle...
The school invested in them too. You're acting as if it's a one-way street. It goes both ways. LSU offered them a scholarship, would it have been fair to pull the scholarship of a 4 year backup? Absolutely not. Nobody wants to see players hurt but getting hurt is a possibility during any time in their careers. They received all the benefits of PLAYING at LSU, then they should actually PLAY.
As long as they got the 100's of thousands of dollars in education, gear, trips, food, weight training, etc then they need to honor their obligation to uphold their end. You're a puss if you're willing to just roll over and accept that players are choosing not to play.

Bull shite.
If Key doesn't play this year LSU will be the only school that has had two players sit out.
LSU - where the players use LSU as a stepping stone to the NFL and don't care about winning.

Do they wear fricking jerseys with LSU on them? Helmets? Does another team fricking line up against us? They keep score? Then it goddamn counts.

The irony is that Clowney was one of the more recent examples of someone who everyone accused of "playing for the NFL" in his last year at USC, but his highlight moment came from a bowl game.
Personally, I'll never blame a guy with NFL aspirations for sitting out a bowl game. It just doesn't matter and could cost them health and money moving forward.

You'll get downvoted, but you are absolutely right. Natural physical ability (speed, size, athleticism) matter MUCH more to NFL scouts/GM's/coaches than what a guy did in a game that is essentially an exhibition. Win or lose LSU's season ends. A win doesn't advance them one step closer to the championship...which is the exact same result if they lose.
There is a reason guys like Jalen Collins get drafted in the 2nd round even though their college production isn't great, while a guy like Tyran Mathieu gets taken in the 3rd round despite being arguably the best pure playmaker at LSU in maybe 50 years. Collins had the physical attributes NFL teams want. God only makes so many people with his size/speed combination. NFL teams can't coach size/speed. They can teach a great athlete to be a good football player.
Likewise, off the field issues don't matter if you have rare athleticism. Ask Rashard Robinson who was drafted in the 4th round (one behind Mathieu) despite only playing essentially 1.5 seasons at LSU before getting kicked off the team and out of school. He wasn't anywhere close to the playmaker that Mathieu was. Yet, he gets chosen only one round behind where Mathieu was drafted...even after not playing football for over a year!
Bowl games are only a big deal to fans and coaches. For the players it's a vacation (unless you want to tell us trips to Disney World, eating contests and shopping sprees are part of every game week during the season). For NFL scouts it's one last chance for top players to get seriously injured.

It’s an exta football game to watch the tigers play until next year, who gets upset over this?

exhibition.
Its extra practice for players that will play next year, reps for 2nd and 3rd string guys that dont get many and the ability to play in a big time game against a big time opponent. Bowl games are about the future.

You would be bitcoin like crazy if LSU were not bowl eligible or playing in a lesser bowl. I am greatful young men like Guice are real student athletes without this totally jaded and self motivated View.

To the NFL bound players (unless playoffs): probably doesn't mean much to many of them. Some it will.
To the players behind those: means everything
To the coaches: it matters alot, future and present, on a personal and professional level
To the program: it matters- $ and player wise. More about the future, but includes the present.
So as a fan...
The only reason it shouldn't matter is if your "fandom" investment lies only with certain players. Otherwise, it matters to those other players, the coaches, the program and has a large impact on the future.

To many bowl games.
Waters down the system. Its like participation trophies for the snowflakes.
Should just stick to the top 5 or 6 bowls. If you don't make one, then oh well.
Winner should get GIANT Trophy
Loser should get a little trophy.

Meh. I disagree.
In many ways, the bowl game and the actual result doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. In many other ways, it absolutely matters...It's still a game. That gets played. And watched. And attended. And recorded in the history books.
I can guarantee you that all coaches (and many, if not all, players) want to win the game.
You talk about effort and motivation of individual players in an individual game, which is a concern in all games at all levels, not just college bowl games. It's a natural part of "sport" ... what team, players, and coaches want it more on any given day typically decides wins and losses.
Are there players that are "checked out" for an individual game and don't give 100% effort? ... Sure, there were players that were checked out in Week2 and Week7 and Week 12 as well. It's up to the coaches to get their team prepared to win, regardless of their respective self-motivating factors.

It's not an exhibition game. It's a sanctioned NCAA game, and the outcome will be reflected and documented in the season's win/loss total. It's no different than any out of conference game we've played this year, although I would argue that for the sake of posterity that it's the most important one.
But let's just assume that your point is valid. If that's the case, at what point do games stop counting? The SEC West was lost for LSU after the Bama game, so why not excuse players from sitting out against Arkansas, Tennessee, ans aTm? What was the point of those games? To get a better bowl bid? You're saying that bowls are meaningless, so what's the point of wanting a more prestigious bowl if it isn't going to be a NY6/playoff bowl?
This is a precarious can of worms that's being opened with this bowl game sit out shite.
